My OS:

cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="18.04.3 LTS (Bionic Beaver)"

I am running it from inside a Singularity container. So, preferably no write access to /dev/:

service rsyslog start
 * Starting enhanced syslogd rsyslogd                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
mknod: /dev/xconsole: Permission denied
chown: cannot access '/dev/xconsole': No such file or directory

How do I disable requesting of /dev/xconsole? I uncommented the following lines in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf but it did not help:

daemon,mail.*;\
        news.=crit;news.=err;news.=notice;\
        *.=debug;*.=info;\
        *.=notice;*.=warn       /dev/tty8

This is my hard drive at first:

  1. /dev/sda1 100MB for bios_grub
  2. /dev/sda2/ 500MB for /boot
  3. /dev/sda3 800MB as physical volume for LVM2 myvg volume group.

I used parted to delete sda1, and sda2. After that recreated /sda1 (600MB) for /boot. Then used gdisk to update numbering /dev/sda. so now /dev/sda3 becomes /dev/sda2. The problem is that the when I run pvs I still get /dev/sda3 as physical voume for myvg.

How do I update this while keeping the data inside myvg intact?

Because my local RAID-based logical volume is not big enough, I am thinking to extend it to a network block device. I am aware that when read/write to the network block device, the performance is lower. However, the bigger risky thing: in cases of network instability, the data in this network-spanning volume may be corrupted. So my question is, how robust is LVM to deal with this setup? What other suggestions do you have?

I have a program to run in a schroot environment. I can run like this without an error:

user@precise:~$ schroot -c trusty 
(trusty)user@precise:~$ myprogram.sh my.Rmd

However, when I call the script in one go like following, it fails:

schroot -c trusty -- myprogram.sh my.Rmd

Error message:

Error in yaml::yaml.load(enc2utf8(string), ...) :
  Scanner error: mapping values are not allowed in this context at line 2, column 7
Calls: render ... yaml_load_utf8 -> mark_utf8 -> <Anonymous> -> .Call
Execution halted

I think somehow the environment variables of the chroot are not provided correctly for the program.
