I found that all my domainusers can read the cubes in my Microsoft Analasys Services. I have no roles specifying that. Neither the domain admins nor the local admins contain any group that would contain unwanted users. The serveradmin role does not contain any entry. So I'm out of options. Is there any way to determine "how" or "due to which permission" a user accesses SSAS?

Things to mention: the datasource of the cubes use the system account (ImpersonateServiceAccount). But I would wonder if this has anything to do with the issue I have. The properties of the SSAS instance are all on default (except for the file paths).

Could this be related with NTFS permissions on the SSAS's files?

How can I limit (RDP) access to a Windows Server not only by username/password but also with a client certificate?

Imagine creating a certificate and copying this to all computers from which I want to be able to access the server from.

This would not be as limited as IP based rules but would add some flexibility on the other hand as not every computer/laptop is in a certain domain or fix ip range.

Is it possible to run an SQL Server Web edition in a Windows 2008 R2 Failover Environment?

I want to host a Website with backend database but keep it failsave with a failover cluster (install it on two nodes and failover if one node fails).

What happens if I change a column from nvarchar(2) to nvarchar(10) or a column from char(2) to nvarchar(10). Does this lock, reorganize the table or does this work without any impact or downtime?

I tried to find what happens if I alter a column, but I did not find anything. Its a large table with one or two columns to be changed. Its about a MS SQL Server 2008 R2.

How can I copy certain SQL server data from one server to another without opening direct access to SQL server in the firewall?

We often get the error Table marked as crashed and should be repaired on some of your mysql tables running on a windows 2003 server.

How can I monitor if a table in a mysql db is "crashed"? Is there a file to watch (would be easy to implement) or do I have to place some query on the db (would be more complicated, as the monitoring tool would need a db login for that) or is there some system parameter to read?. There is an eventlog entry, if the table is touched, but parsing the eventlog does take a very long time.

Is it possible to forward one DNS alias to another domain? Example:
mysub.mydomain.com should return the IP Adresses of yoursub.yourdomain.org where mydomain and yourdomain are managed by the same Windows DNS server.

I want to move all website data from one drive to another as the storage is almost full. As I also want to keep the drive letter to the website drive I thought of switching the drive letters in windows to move to the new drive. Here is what I thought to to:
1. Stop IIS 6 and all services accessing the original drive.
2. Copy all files including NTFS rights to the new drive
3. Switch the drive letters of the two drives
4. Start IIS again

All without reboot. Would this be possible? Is changing the drive letter sufficient or are there any constraints in the background that would not be updated? I assume with this method I would not have to change any configuration etc.

What is the difference between Remote Desktop Services and Terminal Services? We run a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. There are several administrators who need to access this server. Windows 2008 allows only two concurrent sessions with different users.

So I thought of installing Terminal Services. But I wonder what will happen to the server if I do so? What will be installed additionally? Will there be more features, ports, issues with the server?

We want to setup multiple servers hosting the same site. Each server (iis6 or iis7) is on its own. Meaning it does not sjare any information with the others. They are not even in the same country.

The problem we encounter is that if we setup a round-robin DNS (multiple IDs under one Domainname) is that the client (browser) switches the servers so that the asp.net session gets lost. The question is how do we set this up, so the clients are randomly send to one of the servers and if one fails the users go to the next one. But if a user is using one of the it should stay there.

Is it possible to move a sql server 2005 db to a different server running sql server 2008 without any downtime? The system is 24/7 and has to be moved to a different server with different storage.

We tried copying the database, but that does not keep the whole db synchronous at the end of the process.

Is there a way to localize dns entries? Meaning, that users from asia resolve mydomain.com to another ip than users from usa or europe. This would be helpful to give the users the server nearby. DNS is the only technique used so far, meaning I cannot place some softwarerouting or central system replacing the dns to solve this.

Now and then we get emails every second with a random subject and random sender address.

The subjects look like

where mydomain.com is our own domain. Meaning someone spams us with a from address using our domain name (everyone can do that) and sends thousands of emails to a specific account on the same domain. There is almost no content in the mails, only further cryptic characters.

What sense does that make? There is no viagra or html advertisements in there. How to block that?

our IIS6 is running a smtp service.

This smpt throws the following exception if an email shall be send to an domain with an umlaut.

Exaple: mymail at mydomäne.de etc.

Doesn't the IIS support such email addresses? What can I do about this?

we run a cluster using 2xWindows 2003 Server + 2x Windows 2003r2 Server. Now we want to add 2 Windows 2008(r2?) Server to the fail over cluster. Is that possible? Or is it required to use the same OS (2008/2003) for all cluster nodes?

we run several windows servers and windows clients on our vmware esx. One of the Windows 2003 Servers is a build-server with major HDD-reads/writes. as it is our build server.

This machine was a hardware before and was virtualized to the ESX. Is there any way to increase the HDD-Performance? Perhaps there are special windows (guest) drivers? The files are stored on a Raid6 base.

we want to improve our mailing lists by handling all the bounces we get. As I saw there are different approaches. One checks the badmail folder in IIS mailroot folder. Others check a email account using pop3 to get the bounces.

Our setup is an exchange server behind a IIS SMTP server. We send from different servers (out) and different addresses. But incoming is all the same server.

What software can help us to easily handle the bounces? I do not want a tool, that removes all emails from the server (pop3), as I imagine to scan employees accounts as well as automatic accounts. The tool should allow actions to be taken (call a batchfile, or call a URL to do something with the address bounced.

What about the difference between the badmail folder and the Nondelivery Emails? Do both cover all bounces or just combined?

Sometimes I want to send newsletters to my customers. The problem is, that some of the emails get caught as spam messages. Mostly by Outlook at the client (even in my own Outlook 2007).

Now I want to know what should be done to create "good" emails. I know about reverse lookup etc., but (for example), what about a unsubscribe link with an unique ID? Does that increase a spam rating?

why does windows (from xp to 7) take so long to access other machines over network?

In detail: if I do Start -> run -> \machineinLocalNet\c$ oder \machineinLocalNet\share it always takes long to bring up the credentials dialog.

I ask this, because I never saw it any other way in every network I was woking in. Even if the machines are in the same active directory domain.

I assume there is some authentication process running, but there has to be something that can be done about it.

we use one windows 2003 server to sync files between two other windows servers. I assume that the whole traffic goes through the server initializing the sync.

If so, is there a way to trigger a copy between the 2 other machines without routing all through the first server?
