Office 365 E3 includes "Office Professional Plus 2010 desktop version subscription" (for up to 5 devices per user)
What is the actual licensing mechanism for this subscription?
That is, how would this work in an environment where you're preparing a ghost PC image to be used for multiple people? Can you pre-install Office 2010 from the standard installer and then track the licensing centrally?
For a server on a Windows Domain, what is the membership of "BUILTIN\Users" exactly?
(I figure this has an obvious answer, but googling hasn't given me any clear definitions)
Distributed network, about 600 PCs, just upgraded to IE8.
Currently the 'Enable Native XMLHTTP Support' option is disabled (perhaps this is an artifact of the upgrade from IE7) but its causing a few very specific problems with certain jquery widgets etc.
Is there any good reason not to turn this option on?

When you have a virtual Windows server in the cloud (say, an EC2 Windows Server 2008 instance) and your only way into it (initially) is Remote Desktop, what are some good ways to make that secure?
(particularly if you can't predict what IP you will be connecting from)
One of our Enterprisey systems has a long-running batch process that sometimes get interrupted by the following popup dialog:
OpenCurPrinter: printer: \\FS3\HP30351st, port: Ne00:, drive: winspool
Error initializing the printer
(where \\fs3\HP...etc... is the path of one of our network printers)

I have seen a few ancient mentions of this 'OpenCurPrinter' dialog on the web, so I think its something to do with the Windows OS or printer drivers rather than the particular Enterprisey system that we are running the process in.
The OS is Windows XP and part of the batch process we are running involves emailing documents via Outlook/Exchange, if that makes any difference. Is this something to do with the way MS Office talks to printers even when its not printing?
Can anyone tell me where this dialog is coming from, and what I can do to stop it from appearing? (Its playing havoc with our batch processing)

If I were to have a server (Windows Server 2008) out on the internet that is allowed Remote Desktop connections, is there anything to stop random people from trying brute-force Username/password combinations?
e.g. would it lock out users or IP addresses after a certain number of failures?
I've seen various Apache versions of this question but no IIS one, so I'll ask it:
I have 2 IIS7 servers, and 2 domain names (e.g. www.fooone.com and www.footwo.com), and 1 IP address.
I want each domain name to go to a different IIS server, and the IIS servers are serving completely different content.
Can IIS handle this, or do I need an additional proxy?

We have a SQL Server 2008 server, licensed per processor.
If I want to install SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) on a couple of desktop PCs (in order to connect to the server), do I need more licenses?
I can't find much about this in the SQL licensing FAQs.
I know this can be done on Linux with JIRA, using mod_proxy, but I'm not sure if its possible on Windows:
Say we have a Windows server running IIS 7.0 and serving up pages on port 80, via an address like:
http://twiddle.something.com
We then install JIRA on the server, it uses its bundled Apache web server to serve stuff up on port 8080, like this:
http://twiddle.something.com:8080
Is there a way to configure IIS and Apache so that JIRA runs off a port 80 folder, as in:
http://twiddle.something.com still hits IIS
http://twiddle.something.com/Jira hits JIRA on Apache?

I appreciate that to get a proper DMZ, one should have a physical separation between the DMZ servers and the LAN servers, with a firewall server in between.
But, in a network consisting of a single Blade Enclosure containing two or more Blade servers that run multiple virtual servers, whats the closest approximation to a DMZ that could be designed?
More details: Virtual servers, mostly Windows, running in a VMWare environment on the Blade servers, and physical firewall box between the Blade enclosure and the internet.
When I remote desktop into a server, I get a loud beep coming out of my local machine whenever certain messageboxes pop up.
(An example is to search for something in the Event Log - when the search finds no results, I get a message box accompanied by a loud beep)
Annoyingly, the beep still happens even if I have sound turned off locally or the volume right down - it seems to be hooking in to some low level OS-beep mechanism.
Any way to turn it off?
Having read Jeff's blog post about Email and DKIM, I'm thinking it might be good to DKIM all mail coming out of our Exchange 2003 servers. Whats a good way of going about that?
If you have SQL Server 2008 Trial edition installed, how can you find out how many days are left?

My sys-admin colleagues have an Exchange 2003 R2 SP2 server running Outlook Web Access (OWA) through an IIS 6 server (naturally).
OWA seems to crash every couple of weeks. Looking at the Application Pool recycling in IIS, I notice that all of the Recycling options (by time, by number of requests, fixed time etc) are switched off.
Would it be a good idea to switch on Application Pool Recycling (e.g. at 3am every day or something like that) or is recycling the Application Pool not recommended for OWA?

Are there any free systems for deploying new applications across a Windows network?
e.g. if I wanted to automatically install Silverlight to every PC?

Further to this question about Blade vs Rack servers I wanted to check some stories I have heard.
Are Blade servers much noisier than regular rack servers? (or was that just when they first came out?)
also, how much more cooling equipment do they need?
NB: I'm probably talking about 1 chassis with 7 or 8 blades in it, compared to 7 or 8 normal rack servers. Not huge numbers of servers.
One of the sites I work at uses VMWare virtual servers. For the most part they work very well, but copying large files onto them from other places on the network is very slow.
By large files I mean around 4GB in size (which isn't actually that big these days)
I have been watching my 4GB file copy for 90 minutes so far, and it still says about 2 hours to go.
Is there some VMWare trick for speeding up network file copies?
Technical details: Its VMWare ESX running on Linux. The network is a 1GB Lan. So far I've been trying to copy just using Windows Explorer, by remote desktopping into the virtual server and then connecting out to the network and copy/pasting the file.
For comparison, if I copied between two real machines on the same network, I would expect 4GB to copy in roughly 5 minutes. Going from 5 minutes to 240 minutes makes me think there is something going very wrong somewhere ....
