It looks like mpack is not shipped with RHEL. Is there a command line MIME extractor (i.e. something that can be used from a shell script) shipped with RHEL 5 that does not require installing a third party package or building from source?
The powers that beTM won't be keen on using anything that's not packaged by the vendor, so I'd prefer to use something that comes with RHEL 5 if possible.
I would like to build a job that polls a mailbox for one of several emails with attachments (don't ask me why the business won't fork out for the web service, but there we are). The emails can appear in arbitrary order, and the process will poll the mailbox, download the attachments it finds, and then return a status code that contains a bit mask of status bits based on which files were encountered.
I want the autosys batch to then kick off a processing job for each file, depending on whether the relevant bit in the status result was set. A fallback position for a small number of jobs is that we check for each unique combination of bits and kick off the appropriate jobs that correspond to the number returned. However, beyond 2-3 status bits this will start to get unwieldy.
Is it possible for Autosys to look at specific bits in a return value in some manner - equivalent to:
... and so on?
Some manufacturers of soundproof rack equipment such as Kell Systems or Acoustirack do quote noise reduction figures but I can't find any specifications for an XRackPro2. Given the evasive nature of the manufacturer's literature (they do everything but state noise reduction figures) and the somewhat somewhat narrower dimensions (61cm vs. 75cm) than the Kell Systems rack I'm inclined to simply dismiss it as probably not very good. However, I need to get it up a stairway that might be too narrow to fit the Kell rack, so the Kell is looking like it's not a goer.
Does anyone have first hand experience of XRackPro racks? The noisest things it will contain are disk arrays - an HP MSA30 and a Xyratex RS1600 (Same OEM as a NetApp DS14 but a different disk layout). It needs to go next to somebody's desk, so it needs to be comfortably quiet, but it's not going into a recording studio.
Alternatively, does anyone have a recommendation for a 18-24U soundproof rack that is no more than 70cm or thereabouts wide?
Is there any compatibility list published for Intel X25-E/M SSDs and various RAID controllers? In particular, I am looking to retrofit some Intel X25s to an XW9300, so I need to find a PCI-X SAS/SATA RAID controller (e.g. Adaptec ASR-4800) that will play nicely with these disks.
Alternatively, is anyone aware of any decent guide or reference for compatibility with these disks? If not, links to reviews or other articles that list the hardware configuration in enough detail to infer what hardware is being used might also be helpful.

I have just added a login to test an ETL process on a database and I get the error described below when connect using the account I click on the 'Tables' tab on the object explorer on SSMS on a database with the login set up as a user.

The SELECT permissions was denied on the object 'extended_properties' database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229).
This looks like it should be a noddy mistake but I can't find anything that fixes the problem in a quick google search. Any ideas?
What (if any) data dictionary views on SQL Server 2005 allow one to monitor log space usage on active queries by Process ID?
I have a performance problem with a SQL Server data warehouse solution on a blade connected to an IBM Shark. Disk I/O performance seems to be pathologically slow with excessive page latch wait times. Other people working on SQL Server based MIS projects report similar symptoms but there is no apparent solution. Some tests I have tried are:
Building some or all of the volumes on shevles set up as RAID-10. This did not have any discernable effect.
Disabling the forced write-through behaviour on SQL Server (this may be a placebo - see below).
None of the tests significantly affected speed and the system will benchmark approximately twice as fast on a machine of broadly similar hardware and O/S specification (Windows 2003 server EE) with a direct-attached SCSI array. On the SAN I have three volumes with 8 disks each mounted (RAID-10 logs, RAID-10 tempdb, RAID-10 data). On the machine with direct-attach disks I had 6 internal and 14 external 10k SCSI disks.
Note that the Shark had 32GB of cache RAM, which should have been enough to fit the working set of the application as tested.
One avenue I investigated was a SQL Server certification program for SAN storage where the SAN honoured I/O with a forced write-through bit set. I could find documentation of EMC, HP and Hitachi SANs that claimed compliance with this, but could find no such literature for the Shark.
Has anyone encountered similar performance issues on a Shark - if so do you have any insights on this?
On SANs with Mylex RAID controllers there is a command-line utility called mlxcfg that allows one to configure the SAN. Does such a utility exist for Clariion CX SANs and is it free to use without licensing for Navisphere?
