Reading through the documentation for SmartTarget/Fredhopper there's a section on Transforming data - where a popularity attribute can be assigned to based on figures gathered through web analytics.
We'd like implement something similar but its not clear though where the new "popularity" attribute is defined.
Is this something you need to add to the business.xml manually?
Another section in the docs mentions "Editing the business.xml manually is not supported."!!

We have a 2011 SP1 CM server that we've recently updated with HR1 - it didn't have the Publisher installed as this was on a separate server.
This other server is being re-purposed, so I went and installed the Publisher from the 2011 SP1 CM installer.
Sadly the Publisher service won't start - I get "Error 1068 The dependency service or group failed to start."
Anyone seen this before? Could it be caused by installing a 2011 SP1 Publisher into a 2011 SP1 HR1 CM?

Just wanted to check as the after reading docs I'm not 100% sure but in our scenario we have a separate server with running the Deployer (HTTP Upload), a separate SQL Server with Broker on it and two presentation servers each with the API server role installed.
We want to take advantage of Tridion Object caching so
On each presentation server:

I this correct? Basically I'm unsure if the CCS goes on each API server to be notified by the Deployer, or if it goes on the Deployer server and the API server point to it there?

We're setting up SmartTarget/Fredhopper in our Tridion 2011 SP1 HR1 environment and have hit a snag - hence the question!

Fredhopper is installed on a different server so we're using the SmartTarget Web service (non-J2EE & Tomcat) and have configured this in the smarttarget_conf.xml:

A quick check ofthis URL in a browser succesfully responds with the WSDL. We've also configured the service to a DEBUG level but no log file is ever written, suggesting the deployer never successsfully sends anything to it.

Can anyone advice on next steps to check or anything obvious we've missed?

Additional information from the core log - there seems to be an unable to execute onSuccess in here, that looks a bit suspect!

We have a requirement to allow our users to submit information about their "projects" - a small piece of text and single image they upload. Ultimately we'll have a listing page of user contributed projects that others can comment on and rate.
We've decided to user Tridion's UGC for rating & comments site-wide for this first phase which has got me thinking - UGC is tied to Tridion published pages & components, if we want UGC on our user-submitted projects, they'll have to be created within Tridion as components themselves, not be sat in some custom db table?
Is this where the Core Service could come in? My understanding is that the CD Web Service is for retrieval, not for interacting with the Content Manager.
Is it OK (!) architecturally to expose the Core Service only to our live application servers so our backend .NET code can create "project components" that can be then be published by editors allowing them to be commented on?
Everything sounds pretty neat and tidy apart from the "exposing Core Service to live servers" bit. Without this though I'd have to write a custom way to "transfer" it back over to the Content Manager - maybe like Audience Manager Sync works?
Anyone done this before?
When we try to add the MTSUser details in the Database Wizard we get the error:
"Warning: The logon attempt of MTSUser on the local machine failed with reason: Logon type not granted. If the values you have entered are correct for the management system server choose OK otherwise choose cancel to return to the previous dialog".
I'm pretty sure the account details are correct and I've stumbled across an old Tridion forum post from 2003 that states this was a known problem in certain circumstances where the type of logon the wizard attempts can fail. It was intended to try and give some immediate feedback e.g. if a password was wrong.
Is this still the case nine years later? I want to click continue but also want to avoid problems further down the line!
