We have a VPS on wich we have a few websites. In the last days it has experience a big load and has sometimes even stoped responding and had to restart it.

After looking into it, we seem to have a high usage of CPU from apache. We are now looking at the stats from mod_status to find the source.

Below is one example.

What seems to not make sense for us is the high CPU values on some pages. For example 28.17 on results.42km.ro:80 GET /athletes/view?id=13115 HTTP/1.1

On the explication for columns for CPU it says CPU usage, number of seconds Does that mean the process took 28 seconds?

I am running Centos 5 on 64 with apache 2.2.

When I include wsgi_module apache restarts ok with no errors, but it fails to serve any requests. It just says waiting in the browser when I access an URL.

Any thoughts of the problem or how can I narrow the problem down?

Syntax OK

I am trying to install mod_wsgi.so on my VPS runninr Centors 5.21. I installed python 2.6 and compiled mod_wsgi. It all worked with ought an error. When i include the mod_wsgi.so in Apache i get the error:

mod_wsgi.so: undefined symbol: ap_close_listeners ---

I searched google with no luck. Any ideas? Tnx.

I would be interested what webapps do you know/use that allows you to monitor VPS. I would like to have the following metrics, CPU, Memory, Disk stats, Apache stats (hits/sec, free agents)

We installed Ubuntu Desktop as our dev server, and now its sitting in a DMZ, so there is no porpuse for the whole grafic interface, since we only access it via SSH.

Is there any way to strip all the uneeded packaging of ubuntu Desktop and convertit to ubuntu server withought going and removing each thing by hand ?

I use Exim on a Centos distribution and have some problems with the mail sending. In order to make all the email pass the spam filters the "Return-path" and "Sender" headers have to be attached to each email.

What should I do in order to have "Return-path" and "Sender" headers added by Exim to be exactly the same as the "From" header created by my mail client ?

The memory seems to be generated by apache as the user nobody, on pages requests. The thing is that nothing on the code has changed. And i cant imagine what is causing this.

The websites hosted are not very popular, so there isnt so much trafic coming in.

How can i go about and diagnostic the problem. Thanks for any advice.

i have a basic auth setuped with user and groups

AuthType Basic

and now i want to protect a folder with acces only for a group

require group myGroup

and it works but there is one problem. If i dont gave access to that folder i get the login window again, and i would like to through forbidden. How can i do this.

Later Edit I am already logged in with a valid username, but when i access an area that has a require group that i am not part of i want to get a auth denied instead of the login box.

the strangest thing happend today. I was trying to acces the SVN repo but it gaved me an error, after looking into it i found that all the files are missing.

I had the following directory structure: /coding/svn/reposotory/company/project1/ /coding/svn/reposotory/company/project2/ /coding/svn/reposotory/company2/project1/

And in project1, project2 there were the repos ... Now i still have the folders ... but if i look in project1 for example its all empty.

I cant even imagine where they went. And its so strange that the directories are still there but the files are missing.

CLARIFICATION I am not talking about the files under SVN control, but the actual repo files ( hooks, db, the whole dir )

I upgraded to Ubuntu 9 and I am now getting this error:

There was an error while performing indexing
Index corrupted.

I've tried re-indexing, but the problem still shows up. Does anyone have any ideas?
