I don't know if this type of question belongs to ServerFault or SuperUser.

If I mess with the source partition (eg. deleting and recreating a bigger partition) where the OS was originally installed, when restoring the partition from an image in sda2 using Clonezilla, Windows will complain and be unable to repair. I sometimes get error 0xc0000225, sometimes will just enter an endless boot/reboot cycle.

I also tried booting from the DVD and using the Repair procedure, to no avail.

A restored Ubuntu works just fine, so it looks like Windows is more picky.

Does someone know what can cause this and what can be done about this?

Update:
After hitting the Repair option in the failing Windows, it runs for about 15mn, and fails with the following error message:

Root cause found:
Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490

I need a basic FTP server on Linux (CentOS 5.5) without any security measure, since the server and the clients are located on a test LAN, not connected to the rest of the network, which itself uses non-routable IP's behind a NAT firewall with no incoming access to FTP.

Some people recommend Vsftpd over PureFTPd or ProFTPd. No matter what I try, I can't get it to allow an anonymous user (ie. logging as "ftp" or "anonymous" and typing any string as password) to upload a file:

# yum install vsftpd

# mkdir /var/ftp/pub/upload

# cat vsftpd.conf

anonymous_enable=YES
local_enable=YES

Does someone know how to configure Vsftpd with minimum security?

Edit: with trailing space removed from "chown_uploads", err 500 is solved, but anonymous still doesn't work:

With user "ftp" listed in /etc/passwd with home directory set to "/var/ftp" and access rights to /var/ftp set to "drwxr-xr-x" and /var/ftp/incoming to "drwxrwxrwx"...could it be due to PAM maybe? I don't find any FTP log file in /var/log to investigate.

Edit: Here's a working configuration to let ftp/anonymous connect and upload files to /var/ftp:

Currently, I rely on Gmail to weed out SPAM because the anti-spam software on my hoster's mail server is so crappy, and besides, it doesn't provide a good web UI so users can tag false negatives and improve its recognition rate.

But I don't like to depend on Gmail, especially for sensitive corporate e-mails, and I was wondering if there were open-source anti-spam solutions that were as good, or close to Gmail's?

I'd like to check Lotus Notes as a replacement for Outlook in stand-alone mode, ie. using local files instead of talking to a remote Domino server.

Googling for this didn't return much, and the books I found on Amazon usually just show how to use the Lotus Notes client: Does someone know of a good article that gives the big picture of how Notes works?

IOW, I'd like to know where to go from the 8.5.2 trial EXE that I just downloaded, and how to get a runnning PIM application that I can sync with a smartphone, including contacts, calendar, to-do's, and notes.
