For a username "A&B"

[abuser@myserver] chfn -f "A&B"

When this mail arrives, "&" appears to be replaced by the username in the From field in the email.

I'm running an application server behind an Apache proxy with the following sort of thing in my Apache config:

ProxyPass        /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp
ProxyPassReverse /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp

When I switch on NTLM authentication (using mod_ntlm) the authentication fails (it works fine when bypassing the proxy). A quick search reveals lots of issues when running NTLM behind a proxy due to the connection-specific NTLM specification.

Does anyone have a working Apache configuration that allows NTLM authentication through a proxy?

Obviously archived redo logs are backed up as frequently as required, but does it make any sense to backup online redo logs? Is the online redo log an open and active file such that copying it in this state is a waste of time (same as backing up an open database)?

If the online redo log hasn't switched for 20 minutes (so that the log was available for archiving) then if the system fails and media recovery is required and you haven't backed up the online redo log, surely you've just lost the last 20 minutes of transactions?

I know there are other, more robust ways of transporting redo information to ensure nothing is lost, but I'm still interested in the state of the online redo log files.

Clarifying Update...

There is a regular background process running regularly that ships off archived log files and online log files. I don't have much control of this process. Are the online log files usable, or could they be corrupt if the log was being written to when the backup was taken?

When doing data warehouse bulk data loads into a table for which I don't require logging, typically my process is to:

  1. truncate table
  2. drop indexes
  3. insert /*+ append */
  4. re-create indexes without logging

This works fine but dropping and re-creating indexes can causes problems so I was wondering whether folks thought this step was necessary. I understood that from 10g onwards, such index creation was optmised so that the indexes were re-built following the data load itself.

Anyone have any experience of this?
