I am not looking for detailed instructions, I just want the quick and dirty overview.

We have an existing TFS infrastructure, I am looking to install a new build controller for 1 team project.

Do I need to create a new VM and install TFS (configure as controller) and then link it from the VM to the main TFS instance?

OR

Do I need to create the new VM, install TFS (configure as controller) and then - From the main TFS admin console on the main TFS server - add the new controller?

I've setup a public facing FTP server on a FIOS based connection, and would like to be able to test it. I can't find a good way to test it while being on the same network.

Is it possible?

I'm setting up a vpn server, and the test client can't connect.

I would like to know if there is a way to remotely test a vpn server, perhaps a free online service?

I am familiar with the detach/attach process. But I cannot take the database offline.

Is there a way to back a database, and end up with a usable mdf database file, without taking it offline?

I have a distributed Network, with a SharePoint server located in a remote office that is part of company domain via VPN.

When the Sharepoint server queries anything AD related performance isn't ideal.

Can I do anything about this? Somehow configure AD for better handling over VPN? Or possibly setup a 2nd DC on the remote side that can sync with primary DC and have Sharepoint query secondary?

Any advice welcome.

I have blundered and deleted the wrong file from the esxi data store.

Now what I have is a [MyMachineName]-000002-delta.vmdk and I just need to get 1 or 2 important files off it.

Is this possible? I tried mounting it directly and that didn't work.

Am I completely out of luck?

I would like to find groups and check the members inside AD, if possible using a tree view type of structure. I do not have RDC access to the DC, so I can't login and use Active Directory Users and Computers Snap in.

Is there another way to do this? From another server on the domain that is not a DC?

I have an account that keeps getting locked out (a domain account).

I can see when the last bad login occurred and the bad login count = 5. What I want to determine is the IP address of the machine that is responsible for the bad logins.

How can I find this out?

I connect to company VPN and I can join the default domain without problems.

In office infrastructure we have a seperate domain which is setup as a test environment.

I can RDC into servers on this test domain, and I can ping the DC of this test domain.

What I would like to do is get my local pc connected to this test domain. I'm connecting over VPN, running Windows 7.

Is this possible?

I read an article a whole ago about some new way to login locally to a remote Windows 2008 R2 machine. Some kind of better management feature if you're on a Win 7 client.

Right now I'm using RDC, are there any preferred ways (new) to gain console access to the remote Windows 2008 R2 server from Win 7?

I usually sync my time on any windows based system with internet time.

To do this...

Adjust date/time, then click the Internet Time tab, and Synchronize with an internet time server.

However that tab is missing from my Windows 2008 R2 Server. How is it possible to do an internet time sync or restore this missing tab?

I'm having a frustrating problem with one of our clients who is running an exchange SMTP server.

I have an emailing component that is written in .net and I've specifically used Mono DLL's to ensure that the email component sends the ELO and QUIT command for each message it sends.

Each mail I send will never exceed 10MB's including attachments, which is lower than the session size value set in the clients exchange configuration.

Still the problem persists. Any ideas where to look?

I have an application that calls a console based application when I open a file. I would like to somehow "spy" on this console application so that when it gets called I would like to see what command line parameters are being passed to this console app.

Is this possible?

I have created a host entry. I recently needed to change the IP of the host entry, however some clients in the domain are still looking at the old ip of the host...

How can I cause a network wide refresh?

I have a customer who is using syslog running under Linux. We don't have any Linux infrastructure or skills in our org, so I found a Windows product called WinSysLog.

I was wondering, is Syslog a standard, so all products based on syslog run on the same rules, or are each Syslog applications differant?

I make use of the command prompt quite a bit, but I've noticed that it has really poor support for copying and pasting.

Usually I get around this by creating a batch file, then executing that. What I was wondering is , is there a free program that can execute commands and return the results to a window, I guess if the program had a name it would be something like Visual CMD?

I have installed Mono under Apache and its working.

My question is - Do I need to restart the mono service each time I make ANY change to any asp.net file under Apache, be this a .cs or even a configuration change in web.config?

I want to redirect a host to local machine, in windows you get a hosts file. Is there something like this in Linux?

Would you rather use Wine or Mono to run a .net application on Linux OpenSuse 11.

I need to get the current datetime from a reliable source, because its likely that the local system time could be changed.

Is it possible to get this from an internet time server, one that has close to 100% uptime, preferably via a webservice method, something that is free, and I have to stress absolutely reliable?

I would hope an offering from Microsoft, or the organisation responsible for keeping global time.
