I'm setting up a SLES 12 system for running web applications on it. There is already a /srv/www folder and it's going to be owned by a special user (let's say: web user).

Is there a good practice / standard in Linux (and maybe specially in Suse Linux Enterprise Server), what folder should be the home of the web user / web root owner? Should it be the web root itself?

Is there a good practice / standard in Suse Linux Enterprise Server, what user should own the web root (and it's files and sub-folders recursively)? In Ubuntu e.g. this user is www-data. Is it applicable to SLES? Or should the Apache user wwwrun be the owner of the web root? Or maybe another special user?

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 (on a VirtualBox VM) and installed Apache Ant via aptitude:

$ aptitude install ant

The binary is stored in /usr/bin/:

$ which ant
/usr/bin/ant

Now I want to set ANT_HOME and also add it to my PATH environment variable. On Windows it would be easy to find the correct folder -- ANT_HOME is the folder, where the installation is stored and looks like C:\Program Files\Apache Ant (or simply the parent directory of the folder with the Ant binaries).

How to find out the correct path for ANT_HOME in a Linux system (e.g. Ubuntu Server)?

UPDATE

The documentation on the Oracle website says:

Add the following lines to the file, substituting the directory where you installed Ant:

ANT_HOME=/apache-install-dir/apache-ant-version

How to find out the path to the apache-install-dir?

I'm trying to organize my vhost configs in several files, so that there is a view basic files / "templates" and the rest just include them and overwite settings as needed. Here is described, how the inheritance in nginx works. What I'd like to know, is: (how) is it possible to overwtire not the whole setting block / context (e.g. server), but just an option (e.g. server_name).

Example:

I've defined a server block

server {
    listen   80;
    # server_name is not defined

    if ($host ~ ^(?<project>.+)\.(?<area>.+)\.loc$) {
        set $folder "$area/$project";
    }
    ...
}

and want to set/rewrite set the setting server_name in another place. It should be look like

server.server_name foo.bar.loc;

Dotted syntax is not allowed. But maybe there is something like this?

VBoxManage provides some additional configuration possibilities for VirtualBox, for instance activating of symlinks in shared folders (is still not working for me...):

C:\Windows\system32>VBoxManage setextradata "VM_NAME" VBoxInternal2/SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate/SHARED_FOLDER_NAME 1

How can I see the current configuration? E.g. if SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate is set to 1 or not.
