Whenever I try to recover a server from the Windows Reccovery Environment, it never finds the backup image. I tried the networking option, but it never sees it. It scans the share, no error, finds nothing.
If I do it "normal," no network share, then it does not find it, and I cannot change where it is looking. It is grayed out:
Where does Windows 2012 R2 expect to see the WindowsImageBackup folder at? And, can I change it?
If I have a switch, nothing special set up, just regular traffic, no jumbo frames, no special iSCSI set up, can I still have iSCSI traffic, say from a Windows machine using the iSCSI initiator and a SAN across that uses said switch device?
Granted I might want to use the jumbo frames, but do I need a switch that has an iSCSI "mode"?
EDIT: I have a Dell Powerconnect 6224 and it has an option for iSCSI enable. Right now I have iSCSI running on it with no jumbo frames. It's a very small set of devices.
Is it possible to limit the dates and times a share is available? For example, I may have a group that needs a share, one to be visible, at certain dates and times. I do not mean smb or nfs connectivity between Linux and Windows. I am asking if either OS is capable for doing this.
I created my Start UI like I want and used this PowerShell cmdlet to create the .xml file for a user's default layout:

It created an AppID for each shortcut to a URL in the xml file.
Those AppIDs are not consistent across machines (I tried it).
How can I add shortcuts to my Start UI in Windows 8.1 Pro with the layout xml file?

This is not the included backup software for Windows. It is another product, but I have seen this with every backup software I've ever used.
I want to create a user that can query LDAP on my Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory. It only works with Domain Admins. I read the Account Operators group will also work. Both these have write rights, however. I also read that Domain Users should be able to work, but it does not. Only Domain Admin accounts work.
This is for a PHP program that has an LDAP plugin, so I'm trying to create a read-only user.
I believe ODBC logging is slowing my website down. I read that IIS Advanced Logging can give me what I need with the Log Parser (I think).
Is the Advanced Logging worth the time to implement?
Will it be a lot faster than ODBC logging?
Is LogParser the same as IIS Advanced Logging?
edit: can anyone tell me why I'd want to use this, http://blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2007/05/01/building-an-iis7-sql-logging-module-with-net.aspx instead of the built in ODBC logging? What I have now puts every single item in the log. If someone gets a graphic on the page it goes in the log, for example. That's too much.

I don't understand the difference. Is C: or D: a volume and LUN a target like "disk 1" when I go to the disk manager? Except, that 'disk 1" is really an iSCSI target on a SAN?

I get prompted for my username and password.
They're the same and site and web pages. What can I do to make them both accept my credentials from IE/logged in user?
Brand new server, 2008 r2. I want it to eventually be my forest root. Should I go ahead and join it to the domain as just a member server and then do all the ? Should I run adprep before I join the domain? I'm only asking about member server at this point...before dcpromo. Thanks.
I want the server to be the forest root server. It will replace the current forest root server.
I have two forests, forest A, forest B.
Forest A has no Exchange server. Forest B has 2010 Enterprise.
Forest A does not trust Forest B. Forest B does trust Forest A.
The users are in Forest A, and I want Forest B to use those users in A and give them mailboxes in the B Exchange server but authenticate with A's domain controller.
Is this possible? If so how can I do it?
I cannot use Federation Services because I only have one 2010 Exchange server and it is in Forest B.

I know you can't use multiples NTFS machines/servers with the same SAN iSCSI target without corruption. I have multiple servers, however, that need access to the same data on the same SAN.
I do not have Microsoft Clustering Services nor can I use it (policy and money)
Windows 2008 Server is the OS.
Do not want to open the target on one machine, share it, and have the others pointed to that machine that has the iSCSI target, as it is not redundant.

I was reading about the Edge Transport Role on Exchange 2010. It looks like this is the only way to put Exchange the Internet. Is this true? Also, doesn't this require a second hub transport server? So I need two servers to put Exchange on the Internet?
I also read the client access server role can do it but I need a MS ISA server. Can't I use a regular firewall from Cisco or something?
I know that Exchange 2010 can be run in a Windows 2003 domain but I'd like to run it in Windows 2008. I need to justify it though. Will I lose anything in Exchange 2010 if I only use it in a Windows 2003 active directory?
(I will have Exchange 2010 running on Windows 2008 R2 64bit.)

update: I'm not asking about domain controllers or running Exchange on a DC. I'm asking if my Active Directory is only at the level of 2003 and I run Exchange (on my 2008 server) in that domain, what do I lose? Or, in other words, if I put Exchange 2010 in a 2008 R2 domain, what advantage do I have in Exchange that I wouldn't have had if I had only used a Windows 2003 domain.
Is there anywhere that screen resolution can be set for the users at the domain group policy level?
If I bought a Dell 2950 or 2650, for example, and it has no drives in it (from say an auction). Will any SAS drive I get work in it? I ask because they vary so much in price. Some drives are $150 some are $500. I know they are faster more space, etc. Just wondering if I can get any of these and they will work.

Is this possible? If I have only one ip address then changing the MX record shouldn't matter as it's the same as the www. But my email is on a different machine altogether.
How can I have it where I have one IP address that sits on the Internet but many web names? For example, when a hosting company has a shared IP but I get unlimited domain names (along with everyone else on that box).
I have a box on the Internet but I want to point to another machine that holds a different website when someone types in the different www...(it's sitting right next to it in just a different box). Is that all subdomaining? Thank you.

Am I correct that Ubuntu desktop and server are the same os but that desktop runs X and lacks things that a server might have like dhcp server, mysqld, apache, etc.? And that if I add those items it would in fact be a server with X instead of just the command line that is given with the server?
