My debian box keep getting logs like those and logcheck keeps emailing me them.

CRON[31443]: pam_limits(cron:session): Unknown kernel rlimit 'Max realtime timeout' ignored
sudo: pam_limits(sudo:session): Unknown kernel rlimit 'Max realtime timeout' ignored

I found this bug report for debian that seems to point at the cause. But I don't know what to do to get rid of it.
I don't even know what is pam...
Any idea?

I tried ro remove some unused packages in debian with aptitude.
Apparently I left some conflicting packages and now aptitude refuses to run (same as apt-get) I get this error

apt-get: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZNSt7num_getIcSt19istreambuf_iteratorIcSt11char_traitsIcEEE2idE, version GLIBCXX_3.4

The obvious thing for me would be to install aptitude again. But this is an egg and chicken problem...

What should I do? dpkg works.

I'm running a webserver at slicehost and decided to delete unused/unnecessary users. But I really don't know which ones are necessary for the system to work

I use it as apache webserver with mysql, php, memcached, ssh and proftpd.

This is the list of users in /etc/passwd.
How can I decide which ones to delete?

I'm getting this error in the main page of phpMyAdmin verson: 3.2.1deb1 The additional features for working with linked tables have been deactivated. To find out why click here. When I click the link I get this report.

I already used the script to create the tables. I assigned the permissions to the pma user. And everything is set in /etc/phpmyadmin/conf.inc.php

But it's still not working... The tables are empty. I assume that they should have something. I'm interested in the relations an history features. Obviously I have read the documentation. Maybe something else is unsetting those values? Any toughs?

I need to execute these statements in all tables for all columns. 

alter table table_name charset=utf8;
alter table table_name alter column column_name charset=utf8;

Is it possible to automate this in any way inside MySQL? I would prefer to avoid mysqldump

The query I needed to execute in every table:

alter table DBname.DBfield CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

Crazy query to generate all other queries:

SELECT distinct CONCAT( 'alter table ', TABLE_SCHEMA, '.', TABLE_NAME, '  CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;' ) FROM information_schema.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA = 'DBname';

I only wanted to execute it in one database. It was taking too long to execute all in one pass. It turned out that it was generating one query per field per table. And only one query per table was necessary (distinct to the rescue). Getting the output on a file was how I realized it.

How to generate the output to a file:

mysql -B -N --user=user --password=secret -e "SELECT distinct CONCAT( 'alter table ', TABLE_SCHEMA, '.', TABLE_NAME, '  CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;' ) FROM information_schema.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA = 'DBname';" > alter.sql

And finally to execute all the queries:

mysql --user=user --password=secret < alter.sql
