I am playing with / testing GlusterFS and I like it so far. I think I can put it to good use.

I setup 5 Virtual Machines on a server (this is just for the playing/testing part) and installed Ubuntu 12.04 Server on 4 out of 5 and Debian 64bit on the 5th.

1 is a client. 3x Ubuntu servers 1x Debian server.

I compiled gluster 3.3 from scratch on Debian as a test, I wanted to make notes and what not and to see how it went. The ubuntu boxes however are setup using apt.

The 3 ubuntu boxes are working fine. I have 3 Bricks in a stripe and it works great. The client can connect just fine and read/write data.

I am now trying to add the Debian peer to the first ubuntu server so that I can expand the stripe.

I can resolve the hostname, the FQDN and I can ping the ip address from all peers. I can telnet to the Debian machine on 24007 just fine. Yet when I try to probe it just sits there for a while and eventually just goes back to prompt and if I do a peer status I see:

I have rebooted and restarted all the machines just in case.

No Firewalls at all. This is all on an internal server and I have made sure that there is no firewall (and again, I can telnet to the port)

Any ideas or anything I can try?

I am setting up a server as a Nagios monitoring server and I am running into an issue.

If I go to the url nagios.myserver.com/nagios/ (or nagios.myserver.com/nagios/index.php) the server tries to redirect to /opt/nagios/share/s/index.php

The correct folder is: /opt/nagios/share/

I have no idea where that /s/ is coming from.

I am trying to install Nginx on a CentoOS server and having a hard time.

I am new to CentOS for the most part but I am familiar with Debian (but this server has to be CentOS)

After adding the EPEL repo I ran:

yum install nginx

It did its thing up until this point:

--> Finished Dependency Resolution

I have a home Nexenta Store CE server and after shutting it down to move it it will not boot up anymore.

It turns on and detects all 7 drives ( 6 data drives plus 1 smaller OS drive) then it gives me the blue Nexenta boot loader, I hit enter and it starts to boot but then suddenly I get an error (that goes away VERY fast, I had to use a camera on burst mode to get it!)

I am running a Nexentastor server with the follow specs:

dual core (core2duo) cpu 4GB of ram 1x 160GB SATA2 drive for the OS 6x 1.5TB Drives Sata2 drives in a RaidZ1

copying files is fine, fairly fast, I can normally max gigabit so no complaints.

But when it comes to manipulating files especially deleting files that is when it gets VERY painfull.

For example, Deleting a 705MB folder that has about 30 files in it took 2 minutes and 30 seconds (using the time command)

any commands I can run at the same time as rm to narrow this down?

I built a Nexentastor server (free edition) and I am having serious disk performance issues.

This same box had FreeNAS on it before and it was much much faster.

Here are the specs: Dual core E6600 cpu 4GB of good memory 6x 1.5TB Seagate drives plugged into the ICH10 controller (no raid) ZFS (version 24 I believe)

I installed pure-sfv and unrar.

a pure-sfv check on a ~1GB folder takes a few seconds, this is nice and fast, no problems.

But the unrar on the same files takes forever (~7-8 minutes)

I took the same folder and moved it to a linux laptop (dual core, 4GB of ram cheap 160GB disk) and the unrar only takes 30 seconds.

Any ideas what can be causing this?

When I view the load while extracting the disks are going 200-6000KB/s read and about 2000KB/s write, the cpu is at about 10% (8-10%)

This just does not seem right to me.

Could it be unrar being silly? compile issue perhaps?

I am trying to setup php/nginx to connect to an oracle database.

Everything is on a single server (testing)

I installed nginx and set it up just fine it works. I setup php and php-fpm and that works fine (tested some php stuff)

I installed oci8 module using pecl install oci8 and provided the path to my oracle_home, it compiled just fine.

but I Can't connect to a database.

I tried multiple scripts.

I am pretty new to oracle.

the www-error log for php-fpm says to check my oracle_home and ld library path. I set both in my php script as a test and still fails.

any ideas?

EDIT: I added the nginx user to the oinstall group for testing purposes and now I do get better error messages so I am getting further.

I have a few Linux boxes that are part of an AD domain and they work just fine.

We recently switched to a new AD domain and I would like to "migrate" these Linux Machines over to the new domain.

I know how to add them to a domain, is changing them similar?

I have an ESXi server that uses local SATAII disks.

3 datastores.

I have moved all VM's over to the second datastore and there is nothing left on the first datastore.

I removed all VM's from inventory after shutting them down, put server into maintenance mode, rebooted and then attempted to deleted the datastore and I still get the error that the datastore is in use.

I had a look using ssh and on the datastore there is a .locker folder and then 5 .sf files.

any ideas how I can format this datastore?

I have a server running dual quad core cpu's with hyper threading.

We have a Windows 2003 VM and it has a single core.

when using prime95 I notice that it tops out at about 2.3Ghz (each Core is 3ghz on that server).

is there anyway that ESXi can let that single virtual cpu use more then one physical core?

I am running Ubuntu on a box and have X2GO installed which is working great except copy and paste.

the client is a windows machine (tried 2 windows machines just in case)

everything is up to date.

sound works, things are nice and snappy and I am loving X2GO but no copy and paste is driving me nuts.

I tried NX and copy and paste works (but not sound).

any ideas?

I need to change the domain on a few laptops and I would like to keep the existing profile intact instead of getting a new profile the next time the user logs in.

Is this possible?

We have quite a few hp printers and I noticed now they all use the HP Universal printer driver which I added to the printer server (2003 serveR) but when someone on win7 64 bit tries to install the printer they still get an error that says no driver was found on the server for this printer.

I don't have any problems with our canon's and Dells but they supply a driver for each model unlike hp who is going to this universal driver route which frankly I don't like.

I am trying to setup a script for backing up a linux box to a CIFS share.

I manually mounted the CIFS share and created a few test folders - OK I then ran duplicity manually with a rather simple command to begin with to make sure things work and well Not OK on this one :)

I have some power connect switches and I use MRTG to monitor them, though I noticed that if I plug a new server into one of the switches MRTG does not update to display this.

for example I just plugged a server into port 21 and my graphs still don't show port 21.

it does not show pu up in the folder nor in my index.

any ideas?

is there a way I Can add this without loosing all historical data?

I have some linux boxes that use Windows Active Directory authentication, that works just fine (Samba + Winbind).

What I would like to do now though is only allow certain people or certain groups to login using Active Directory credentials. Currently anyone with a valid AD account can login. I want to limit this to only a few groups. Is this doable?

I installed Drupal (both using Fantastico, then started over from scratch) and Drupal works great except when I setup the Zen theme (following the instructions on the website and in the readme-first.txt) the theme does not show up properly.

it has no graphics except for the tiny drupal logo way at the bottom.

the rest is text.

I have uploaded the theme to the /public_html/sites/all/themes folder and it does show up in themes in the administer section so I select enable and default. permissions on this folder are 755.

any ideas?

I checked the Drupal forums and someone is having the same problem but no one replied (this was in April) so I figured I would have a better shot on this awesome website.

We do some builds using AIX, Solaris and HP-UX that take about 4 hours per month and we are wondering if there is a service out there that would allow us to do this by renting the usage instead of having to have actual servers in house.

We need AIX, Solaris (Sparc edition) and HPUX (PA-RISC edition as well as Itanium edition)

Does such a service exist?

I have a new Inspircd server setup for some gaming clans and I want to use a Comodo InstantSSL cert for the GnuTLS connections.

I noticed that in the config files you can point to the certs so it should work but what I am confused about is what I tell Comodo for the type of server when doing the setup? with Zimbra I used Tomcat, for my Apache setup I used Apache but what about Inspircd?

I looked for information/guides but did not find much on the subject.

I am running Inspircd 1.2.

I have a Debian Dedicated server and I want to enable Implicit SSL on it using VSFTPD and I am having a hard time.

I have read online and the only thing I can really find is how to enable SSL and in the man pages it lists one implicit ssl command. but since Implicit ssl uses a second listener (990 by default) I have no idea how to make it work on Debian.

Has anyone managed to get this working?
