Trying to research an answer but can't seem to find out: Can a Windows Server 2016 server be joined to a domain with 2003 Domain Controllers?
Thanks for any help.
I am building Group Policy for a new domain that we are migrating to. In our current environment the settings Log on as a Service is set at the Server OU level - which has about a hundred Service Accounts in that field for having access to this right.
I would like to set this lower down our OU tree structure (we separate out servers based on the application that they run), but a couple of our internal staff have want to not set this policy at all. IE: not checking the setting in Group Policy and let the local servers deal with what accounts are put into its local policy for this setting. Our internal security team want it set as I do, but the couple of people who don't want it set includes an Architect - hence the conflict.
I have consulted with Microsoft Premier Support (who didn't have an official answer for me), internal staff, external IT friend staff, and hours of internet research - but I cannot find any information on if this policy should be set at all. My instincts are to manage this via GPO so that it can be easily audited and managed from one place (our company goes through various external audits from time to time).
The Microsoft resource page: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn221981.aspx is about the only information I can find about it, but it says to minimize the number of accounts that are granted this user right. This seems a bit ambiguous to me...
Can someone please tell me what they think about this settings?
I have a XenApp Server running on Server 2008, and would like to apply a Group Policy Object to the server to modify the following registry setting:
HKLM\Software\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC\LaunchSMCGui
Changing the value from "1" to "0". Note, this is 'best practice' setup recommended from Symantec - it stops new instances of Symantec from starting on each application started on the XenApp server for users.
I have my new Group Policy Object, and have applied it to a test folder with 2 servers in there. For testing purposes, I have applied 'Domain Computers' and also one of the Servers AD Object to the 'Security Filtering' section of the GPO (neither are working on getting the reg key change working).
I run 'gpupdate /force' on the servers, but the reg key stays the same value. It does ask for a log off to complete some policies - but I cannot do that as these are in use during the day (the servers are rebooted each night, but I'd like to know that I've got the settings above correct before waiting 24 hours to check each time).
Can any GPO guru's check the above and tell me if I'm set, or is there something else to do? Thank you.
I have a new Wyse R10L that I am testing, and I have found a tutorial video for configuring it on my network (a test Server 2012 environment).
The instructions say to "set a DHCP option tag 161" to a certain value. When I go into my DHCP options though, 161 is not an option in the list.
Can anyone please tell me how I get that in there?
What is the best way through Group Policy to make a registry file run on logon for computers in a domain?
I'm testing on a Windows Server 2012, with Windows 8 clients.
I have created a Group Policy applied to a 'Computers' folder of which the computers are in, but the .reg file is not running on sign in.
I have purchased an Intel i7 3770 and an Asus P8Z77-M Pro; for some Windows Server 2012 testing.
In the BIOS I have enabled the "Intel Virtualization Technology", and have several Hyper-V based virtual machines running.
I thought everything was fine; but hit an issue when trying to install Remote Desktop Services. It said that "Hardware Virtualization not enabled"...
I have installed a program called "Securable" which tells if the hardware supports it or not, and it comes up as "No".
Does this sound like an issue to return the CPU back for warranty, or would this desktop CPU really not have "Hardware Virtualization" ability? (All I can read on Intel's site says that it should.)
Just a quick question that I can't seem to find any information on.
I understand that SBS 2011 included Exchange, and that the SBS model is no longer being made (moved to Windows Server Essentials 2012).
Does WSE2012 include Exchange the same way that SBS2011 did?
We have Lotus Notes 8.5 in our organisation. We have a group mailbox that we would like to hide the 'Sent By' field for emails sent out.
Can anyone please advise how this can be setup? I can't find much help on The Google...
I am looking into a Windows Server 2008 SP1 with RemoteFX enabled, however I do not want to buy one of the NVIDIA Quadro $1000+ video cards to do it (as only a small number of users will be using virtual machines). I would like to use one of the Geforce cards (I was looking at the 560 Ti or the 570).
I have heard that there are people that have modified the INF driver files for the Geforce cards to get them to work with RemoteFX, but I can't find any information on this. I would like to see some proof before heading out to buy one of the cards to test.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have just bought a new domain name through Crazy Domains, but not DNS routing.
At the moment the name servers are pointing to Crazy Domain, but I would like web traffic to go to my own IP address.
Do I need to purchase the DNS hosting options? Or can I change the name server to my IP?
Thanks for any help.
does anyone know where in the registry for a user the current solid desktop background color is set?
I am trying to lock down a Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal server.
At the moment, when a user opens a directory, there is the option in the Windows Explorer address bar to choose locations. In the root (most left hand side drop down) of this is 'Desktop' and 'User Profile' directory.
Does anyone know - most likely through registry I guess - how I can remove these 2 entries from the drop down?
Is there a way to remove the 'Administrative Tools' link from the Start Menu of a Windows Server 2008 R2 (SBS 2011) using Group Policy?

Does anyone know if either XenServer of VMWare have a virtual server version that will run on old 32bit servers? I've got a spare old server that I want to do some testing on with the technologies.

Just a quick question about A and MX records.
If I have a domain that I have purchased, and I want to get remote mail working eventually, to say: mail.exampledomain.com, do I just put in with my hosting provider an A record like: Record FQDN=mail.example.com Record Type=A Record Value=my ip address
Also, with MX records, at the moment I have an entry as such: Priority=10 Host=@ Goes To=mailstore1.secureserver.net
How do I set it up so that I can forward email to an exchange server that I'm trying to setup.
Thanks.

I need to do some testing on a Windows NT Server environment. I am trying to install Windows NT into the latest VMware Workstation. The 3 boot disks I have for Windows NT are in .exe form. How can I extract them and install the OS into VM?
We are using Windows Server 2003 in a small environment with its own domain setup. The company intranet is currently http://ServerName (the server running IIS). How do I change this so instead of having the servername in the address field, people can type in "intranet" or another name?
Thanks.
