I have here a little bit uncommon system: its primary hard disk can't have an old, DOS (MBR) partition table, only a GPT type. It is an outer restriction, that nothing can be done about. It seems as if the firmware silently rejected the disk writes to a DOS (MBR) partition table.
I am thinking about a Windows Server 2008 install into that system. Is it somehow possible?
There is a big, complex directory structure on a relative big NTFS partition. Somebody managed to put very bad security privileges onto it - there are directories with randomly given/denied permissions, etc. I already run into permission bugs multiple times, and I found insecure permission settings multiple times (for example, write permissions for "Everyone", or false owners).
I don't have time to check everything by hand (it is big).
But luckily, my wishes are very simple. The most common: read/write/execute on anything for me, and maybe read for Everyone.
Is it possible to somehow
On Unix, I used a chown -R ..., chmod -R ... command sequence. What is its equivalent on Windows?
There is a special need on this server to use a lot of network shares assigned to drive letters. It runs a really old (pre-2k) HQM software, thus join/subst/mount solutions don't work.
The situation were a little bit better, if I could use A: and B: as network shares.
My question were, doing so has some non-trivial fallback, or it can be done without any problem (although it is uncommon)?
