Whatever winrm command I issue I get,

The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request ... Error number: -2144108526 0x80338012

I checked all the usual suspects. The service is running. All updates have been applied.

I would like to uninstall the WinRM service and reinstall but I can't find WinRM listed as a "Windows Feature". Is there a way to reset/reinstall this function?

This is a newly installed Standard Windows 2012 server. It was upgraded from Windows 2008 RS Web Server.

When I try I get an error message saying that my computer does not support Network Level Authentication. I am doing remote desktop across a VPN from a PC on a different domain.
Is this possible?

I'm about to deploy a new low-end server and I had considered using ESXi to virtualize the OS to make it really easy to migrate this server to new hardware should the need arise.

I ended up talking to a Dell server tech and he was quick to point out that this is not valid use of virtualization and that I would be better off just using Ghost to create an image and then restore that image on a new server.

I have very little experience with Ghost, but my understanding is that this process could cause all sorts of problems with video drivers, network drivers and raid drivers if the new hardware was very different than the original.

Is Ghost sophisticated enough to solve this problem, or is the Dell rep talking out of his hat?

Normally, where I have a customer with a SBS, I use its DNS to resolve internal names and then forward to the external DNS if the internal cannot DNS cannot resolve the address.

Recently, at a customer site the parent company installed a new Cisco PIX router and took over the DHCP functions. They have changed the config on the clients to use the primary DNS to resolve internal names and the secondary DNS to resolve external names.

I did not think that this was the intent of the Primary and Secondary DNS entries, but I'm no expert on the subject.

What is the preferred client setup when there is an internal DNS?

I just bought a bought a couple of new drives from Dell for a Poweredge 2900 server. I installed them in the hot swap caddy and am attempting to install.

My understanding is I can just remove the blanks from the front of the machine and plug in the drives.

The problem is that as hard as I push, the connectors at the rear just don't seem to connect. Is it normal that I should need to use so much force? Is it likely that dust lodged in the rear connectors is blocking the connection?

Any suggestions welcome!
