What is a repeatable way of destroying SSDs? For example, if i opened it which part could i take out and destroy for just the data(How to identify the actual "storage unit")?

Case 1. Normal user that wants to be reasonably sure that their data is not easily recovered?

Case 2. Consider that the data is sensitive and the drive is already encrypted. The requirement is that the data should be forever irrecoverable which means the encryption in itself is not enough to satisfy the requirement.

Intent: SSDs are electronic compared to its mechanical counterpart so the answer in the question How do I destroy a hard disk? is not applicable because of their inherent differences. I'm all for updating the original question(Making it canonical) based on this question and closing this as a duplicate afterwards.

So we had a hard drive failure today and it got me thinking. It was a 200GB, sata, hard drive and since it was installed there has only been one 20 GB ext2 partition on that drive.

Could the rest of the drive be fine? No other partitions on that drive only unused free space.

This had filled up the syslog, stating different sectors every now and then:

sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00040000
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 4093207
Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block 491606
lost page write due to I/O error on sda1

Of course we replaced the drive, this is out of sheer curiosity.

We have around 20 licenses that have expired. The programs that came with the license is still installed on the computers but has since the license expired been unplugged and locked inside storage.

My question is:

Generally, when it comes to licenses, are you obligated to remove the programs even if the computers they're installed on are not used and can not be used(Most of the power supplies has been removed and are used elsewhere)? If, for example, BSA comes knocking, will there be trouble?
