We have a new Citrix XenApp 6.5 installation. Our HP t510 thin clients display two additional buttons in the task bar when IE9 starts. When an additional tab is opened, another two buttons appear.
The user cannot close the additional buttons.
The extra buttons only display when IE9 is opened. x64 or 32-bit versions of IE9 behave the same way. Non-thin clients do not have this problem.
We have two test web farms (IIS 7.5). The Florida web farm has two ARR servers and two content servers. The ARR servers have WFF and NLB installed. The ARR setup uses a shared config located on a file share. The content servers do not have WFF installed. There is one web farm, and it's managed on an ARR server.
The Illinois web farm also has two ARR servers and two content servers. ARR servers have WFF and NLB installed, and they use a shared config located on a share. One of the content servers has WFF installed, which makes it the controller; it's also the primary content server.
Apparently, Illinois isn't properly configured. From what we've pieced together from various IIS.net articles and this post (http://ruslany.net/2010/07/web-farm-framework-2-0-overview/), the controller should be one of the ARR servers (like our Florida setup).
The thing is Florida's controller doesn't have a Primary server nor can you set one of the content servers as Primary. It doesn't have the management piece showing the Trace messages when you click the Servers node (from iis console, Server Farms/FLFarm/Servers http://ruslany.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WebFarm8.png).
That management piece does exist in the Illinois farm, but that's a bad configuration.
What are we missing that our Florida configuration doesn't have the Primary and Secondary content servers, and the management piece? I have looked for IIS role differences, but there are none.
We have a domain controller that has over 4,000 edb*.log files since 11/29/10. Our other DCs have one file. The kb247715 article discusses how the edb logs work. Clearly something isn't right on the DC; however, there is nothing in the logs to indicate why the circular logging process isn't working properly.
From our SysAdmin that handles backups--
Did some looking into this and it actually might be an issue with the backup software and this server. Not sure yet why this server only... but from what I was reading the backups should remove the logs (like Exchange). However on this server it's not.
I ran ntbackup system state backup to a c:\backup-temp and after it was done all of the extra log files cleared up.
Can't test with brighstor right now (adjusted to just backup everything on this server) because of other backups running.
Will continue to test options.
We have a new file server to handle the obscene amount of files generated by the company (PDFs, XLS, DOCs and JPGs). Files being moved to the new server total about 3tb. The problem is we can't take the company down for days to move the files. The other problem is the applications creating all these files have to reference previous files, so we can't simply point them to the new server. Also, there isn't an option to have the applications create files on the new server, but reference the old server for existing files.
The servers are x64 win2003 r2. Both servers are on the same subnet.
DFS doesn't work.
Is there an application that can handle this amount of data to copy the files over, throttle bandwidth, and do a 'merge'? By merge I mean constantly copying over newly created files until the two servers are synched.
We have a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 server with iis6 that is creating a 1024kb httperr file every minute. I can't figure out what I'm looking at. Here's a snippet:

Nothing in the system or app logs.
Finally, in iis manager, Default Web Site label has boxes instead of spaces. Very odd.
We have a Windows 2003 x64 Terminal Server with Office 2003. I'm trying to install Office 2007 Pro. I've set Permission Compatibility to Full Security so the installation starts properly. NOD32 is disabled after rebooting the server. No users are on the system.
But still, 12 hours later the installation isn't half done. No errors in the app log -- only progress of the different Office products that have been installed.
The first terminal server I installed Office 2007 on is configured in a similar way, and that upgrade happened in less than 30 minutes.
Conflicker has been beating us down all week. We think a server or workstation is clean, but it comes back.
Windows Updates are up-to-date and everyone runs Trend or NOD32.
It would be great to use an effective tool to help us clean the computers. We are still experiencing workstation and/or server services shutting down, random tasks are added to the Scheduler, failing Automatic Update service, and DNS poisoning (I think that's what it's called when you suddenly can't get to microsoft.com and its related update sites).
So far we have used Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (6/2009), and BitDefender Removal Tool. Neither seems terribly effective.
I installed IIS after installing SP2 on Windows 2003 R2. IIS never starts. I tried re-installing IIS, but that failed.
One of those 'dash' sites suggested re-installing SP2. When I attempted this, I got an access denied error -- I was logged in at an Admin level.
The goal is to put WSUS 3sp1 on this server.
The App and System logs have no information; however, the World Wide Web Publishing Service never installs.
After patching a Windows 2003 server, I completely broke RightFax. How do I remove or uninstall the Windows updates I applied?
We have a Win2003 sp2 server that reports the following error when you log into it via RDP--
'Could not initialize communication profile: TCP/IP. Could not open a TCP/IP socket. Address already in use. The combination of IP address and receive port is in use by another program. Please edit the communication profile, click advanced and change either.'
This server is virtualized (VMWare ESXi).
No errors in the logs.
After logging in and closing the error, there are no other problems. Finally, what's a communications profile?
A user's workstation has five printers installed. When she logs on to the terminal server (win2003 r2 sp2 x64), it takes five minutes for all the printers to become available in her terminal server session.
Her WinXP workstation uses RDP 5.2. Only the printer drivers are loaded on the terminal server, so we're using RDP's printer re-direction. No third party apps are involved.
The printers types are HP4100, HP4250 and HP4200. They are networked in her office in Oklahoma; the terminal server is located in Illinois.
Dozens of users with similar setups connect to this terminal server, but she's the only one experiencing this problem.
