I've got an APC SC1000I which I want to set up to be monitored with NUT, likely with newhidups.
The basic config doesn't work:

# tail -n 1 /var/log/messages
Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Driver not connected

What puzzles me, is that the UPS connected over USB is detected as

# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 067b:2303 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port

Is it possible to monitor this given UPS with NUT at all? A working ups.conf section would be welcome.

Is it OK that kernel tries to mount an ext4 raid as ext3, ext2 first?
Is there a way to tell it to skip those two steps?

# grep dev/md /etc/fstab
/dev/md1                /               ext4            noatime         0 1

There's a domain name I'm willing to register which has Expiration Date: 30-Oct-2009 and Status:REDEMPTIONPERIOD.
Shouldn't it have been already released? Should I just wait or is there anything I could do about this?

As in

find -L /etc/ssl/certs/ -type l -exec rm {} +

So it finds all broken symlinks and deletes them. But how exactly do I interpret the {} + part?

Got apache 2.2 listening on 2 ports: one for public serving and just added the second one for maintenance purposes. Now, Here's what works:

<VirtualHost *>
        ServerName some.public.domain
    DocumentRoot /var/www
        <Location /svn>
                DAV svn
                SVNPath /var/svn
        </Location>
</VirtualHost>

And this doesn't:

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:40>
        ServerName localhost
    DocumentRoot /var/www_tmp
        <Location /svn>
                DAV svn
                SVNPath /var/svn/concrete_repo
        </Location>
</VirtualHost>

Accessing http://localhost:40/svn results in a

File does not exist: /var/www_tmp/svn

record in apache error log. Any ideas?

/opt/dev/android-sdk/platforms/android-1.5/tools/aapt: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

On an i386 box this aapt launches, but not on amd64. /lib/libz.so.1 is there in both cases. How come?

Any best practices on minimizing system performance impact during emerging?

Say, I have a default Gentoo install with all the modules (e.g. device drivers) compiled. From this point, is there an easy way to exclude the unused modules the next time I recompile the kernel?
