Currently our production server runs in system ruby. Passenger handles our rails apps.

Should I move to handling my entire ruby stuff using rvm? What advantage can rvm give me in a production environment? Please advise. I'm a beginner in handling servers. I would need to run one or more apps in the same big server box using passenger.

if I use passenger via rvm, should I install passenger gem for every ruby I install?

I have a rails in one of the slices at Slicehost. I've setup postfix (sendmail) to send emails from my rails app.

All emails to Google Apps domain (to company setup google hosted paid email id) are getting delivered properly (but to spam folder).

But all emails to [email protected], [email protected], .. @hotmail.com are not getting delivered and this is the line from my /var/log/mail.log

I have a Ubuntu web server for Rails 3.0 application. when I login to my webserver and do

top

I get set of processes with their stats. Out of that nano process is occupying 100% of the CPU. And that nano process is a root process. I dont know what is going wrong. Because of this, my apache processes, ruby processes all are getting their chance to answer to answer any web requests.

I am the only one who is logged in via ssh. I have disabled webserver logins via password. Please help.

I am renting a Rackspace cloud instance now and I want to measure the incoming and outgoing bandwidth.

When a normal request comes for a page - what is the bandwidth consumed and when a normal page is delivered to the browser from the server instance .. how much is the bandwidth consumed ?

I want to know more about this calculation.I am a beginner at this. please help

I was reviewing the platforms

  1. Heroku = I am a beginner but heroku hides a lot of details i want to learn. so i dont want to user heroku

  2. Linode

  3. Amazon EC2

which is one better. I dont want to spend more than $50 per month on this. Just testing and experimenting out these platforms to get my hands wet.

please suggest and explain me on what platform i should use
