This is my problem: I have a local server with 2 SQL instances. How can I get info from a table in the other instance (while I'm connected to the first instance)? I believe this is possible but then this database is only read-only.

I'm having a hard time configuring Reporting services on one of our servers. I'm not uninitiated in the domain of IIS7 but I cannot get rid of the login prompt when I'm surfing to the Reporting services website.
What I did:
I made a windows and SQL user with the same name:
Then I choose Anonymous authentication in II7 and filled in the credentials of the specific R.S. user IIS7_auth http://img32.imageshack.us/i/iis7auth.jpg http://img32.imageshack.us/i/iis7auth.jpg/

The first problem is that there's always a pop-up when surfing to the website
The second is that when I'm able to log in I get the message that the user doesn't have the appropriate permissions.

On one of our servers we got an -for me new- BSOD with the error message: "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocation time interval"
The server's specs: HP XW9400 2x Dual-Core AMD Opeteron 2224 SE 3,20Ghz (4CPUs) 16GB HP ECC RAM Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit Nvidia Quadro 4xxx graphics (?)

I was asked to install a -rather basic- Internal message system with SQL database we could integrate with our websites. A user is logged onto the website and should then be able to go to its Inbox or outbox; of course they should be able to sent to other users. Important: It's not a smtp/pop mailserver system I'm looking for!

We have a web-application that talks to a SQL Web database on another (database)server. Some queries make the memory on the web-server increase excessively till we receive an out of memory error. For instance, the RAM usage increases from 250MB tot 2300MB, and this all caused by the w3wp (yes, IIS) process.
Now my question is, what tools are there to monitor real time what is happening inside this IIS process. The stacktrace, maybe which objects are stored inside the RAM, etc
The server is running on Windows 2003 R2

I made a backup tool for MS SQL Express that -daily- backs up, 7zips and uploads the zipped files via FTP. It is a program made in VB.net, built as an .EXE with a .config file. One of the functions calls a file "7zip.exe". Anyway, on Win2003 (20 webservers) this works perfect. Small databases, big databases, slow servers, powerstations... The 'daily basis' is created by launching a scheduled task at night.
Now in Win2008 R1 I also created a 'basic task' and set it up. When I launch it, I see it working except the 7 zip does nothing. It has something to do with the scheduled task because when I run the .EXE normally (double clicking...) it 7zips, as it should be.

I'm using FTPS to transfer some files from one remote server to another. Now would I like to move files locally on one server, from one folder to another. More concrete: after moving the files from [remote server 1] to [remote server 2] I want to move all the files with extension .csv to the folder done. I found the 'rename' command but there is no 'rename all' function like:
rename *.csv ../done/*.csv

We are quite stuck with which solution to choose for this backup issue:
What should happen: First, there should be an interface were to choose several sql databases (sort of checkboxes or whatsoever), also a few folders should be backed up -> this could be part of the program or could be seperate, I think about an interface were to select folders, but a txt file (or xml) with paths-to-folders is as good. Next, everything should be 7Zipped, SQL-DB and files seperate. Eventually everything should be copied to a local network drive after which copied via FTP.
Also important; it could be programmed or (partly) bought but I can't be one of those expensive backup tools $1000+ etc.
I already found this fairly priced tool that does already most of the tasks

For your information: we had a kind of self-made tool created by a collegue (some time ago) but it became very untrustworthy and as the databases grew it couldn't handle it anymore... moving on

I have a website (in IIS6) that has to be accessible from both intranet as the internet. Situation now: for every page you get prompted for username and password (via integrated windows authentication) But the webpages 'info' and 'contact' should be accessible anonymously, without authentication this. All the other pages of the website should prompt you for UN/PW, preferably via integrated windows authentication.
How do I managed this? Thanks in advance!

I not a big fan of Hyper-V snapshots. They are mostly too complex, they create .avhd files that are way to big etc... Now, I have a scheduled task running that keeps snapshots for a week (7d) long. When I look into my Hyper-V manager I see 7 snapshot files. But on the other hand when I looked into the \Hyper-V\VHD folder I found lots more .avhd files so I decided to delete every snapshot older then 2 weeks. Couldn't do no harm I thought. First cause was that the Hyper-V V.M. didn't wanted to start anymore. I got an error like:
"the chain of virtual hard disks is broken"
I still had my weeks history of each V.M. so I decided to delete (merge) the entire 'tree substructure' per V.M., in Hyper-V Manager GUI. This gave no errors and all snapshots were removed one by one.
But, I still couldn't start the V.M., same error. Eventually there was no other option left than delete the V.M. entry and recreate it, where I choose the .VHD file as 'existing virtual hard disk'. This -of course- got the V.M. up and running again.
Unfortunatly I have the impression (I'm sure) I've lost a lot of data that were in the snapshots.
What do I have:
-the snapshots from now till 2 weeks ago
-the snapshots for 3 weeks ago till 6 weeks ago (backup-recovered)
What I don't have/lost:
-the snapshots from 2 weeks till 3 weeks ago
-most of the .XML snapshot files (which were deleted automatically apparently)
One of these V.M.'s + snapshots contained very important data, which now seems to be lost

I know there have been a few topics here about password managers but I read them all and did not really find what I'm looking for.
What I'd need is a free or cheap (most password mgr software is $500 for 20+ users, exaggerated!) multi-user password manager, highly preferable web-based so that we can host it on one of our local server.
So: -free or cheap ( <100$) -multi-user of groups -web based -not very hard to install
I tried a few, one very expensive, one I did not get to work-> Web Keepass Manager This works with tomcat and probably conflicts with our IIS 7.0 or 7.5
PS: thus, nothing online (!) it has to stay local

I never thought I would be that unfocused but apparently I did... I disabled the Administrator user and created a new user with password. Unfortunatly I forgot to add this user to the remote access users group. Now I cannot login anymore to this server, which is 1500 miles away, btw. Luckily (?) we have other servers in the subnet.
I tried accessing it via regedit -> connect to remote computer; but I couldn't connect to the server with the credentials of the new (and only) user.
They are all Windows 2003 R2 Servers.

I'm trying to set up some servers for php, more specific smtp send mails via php. Anyway, on the first server everything went smooth, I could install it and run php files without a problem. I installed the appropriate ISAPI extensions etc. For the second server I did the same, I also created a 'virtual directory' on the default website. But, everything stays blank in my browser. Even .html files So not only .php but everything stays blank. Other websites on the IIS run normally. I have to say that the other sites on the default website don't do much either.

I needed an exact copy of a database under another name. I choose for cloning SQL Database via Backup-Restore, using SQL Mgt Studio 2008. Firstly, when restoring the database; I received an error.
SqlError: The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'Pro_SSRS' database. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Then I found out I had to choose for the option "Overwrite the existing database" Seen at various sites, for example here: http://www.nikhedonia.com/notebook/entry/solving-the-sql-server-restoring-database-error/
Now next to my database name I see "(restoring...)" and it's already for a half an hour. I can't even view the properties of the database, most options say "unavailable".
Can someone explain? Or is this normal?(the database is like 20MB..) Thanks in advance!
I would need a bash script to transfer folders recursively via FTP. Username/password/IP - static defined.
As the files to be transferred are big database files (.bak, etc) overwriting should be avoided. Preferably no prompting because the script has to be 'cronned', to run at night.
(I'm not a hero in bash, but I have the impression it's the easiest for this situation)

We already have SubVersion up and running for some time. Now's the question to implement Continuous Integration via CruiseControl.NET. But I was wondering if there weren't any tools to facilitate this installation. Unfortunatly we don't want to spend the money (yet) on buying TeamCity C.I., which also replaces CC.NET. Anyway, we have A LOT of projects and solutions (sln2008) and I'd prefer to not set up everything manually, one by one. What are your propositions?

I want to use XCOPY for an easy copy script to 'sync' one folder to another, every night.
XCOPY C:\hyper-v\VHD\*.avhd Z:\BACKUP\HYPERV_VMs /s /d /c
I cannot manage to get no prompting. When I choose the option /y xcopy overwrites everything (115GB) so no good. I don't see another option to disable the prompting and NOT overwrite existing files.
(If you have a proposition to use another command, be my guest, maybe adjust the existing example then)

Situation: users experience the server as pretty slow
When starting the Task manager of the server I see that the SQLserver.exe process uses 1,5GB. Which I find bizarre as it's only an Express edition of SQL Server 2008, which has a maximum of 1GB memory.
By consequence my question: What if sql server exceeds its Maximum memory supported ?!

I have a problem as I want to use a Samba NAS device as storage for my websites in IIS 7.0, they are all ASP.net websites. Surfing to them gives me a 401.2 error -> permissions problem
The bottomline is; I need to connect from a Win2008 Server's IIS to a samba share...

I only have a webinterface to configure my NAS device. This allows me to create (unix) users and groups. The users must have a password at creation. I guess it executes the 'adduser' command. It's all I can do. The NAS is not approachable via SSH or telnet.
Now, in IIS, when I try to access this device, it tries to access the NAS via COMPUTERNAME \IUSR and its password. The problem is the 'COMPUTERNAME\' (I guess!). In windows, I need to log in to this samba share with only username & password. -> Without computername ! In the IIS manager on the server I cannot find the option to log in with this credentials.
I read something about the option "authenticate as guest when computer information is available" but I'm not sure that's what I need.
FYI, the NAS is a conceptronic CH3NAS device, I'm running Win2008 R2.
