We need to arrange Ethernet network between two cities - this gonna be a partnership with other organization: we help them with equipment and get some bandwidth.

I am newbie beyond 1 Gbit networks, so please forgive me if I sound silly. Here is what I know:

Cities are connected with ~700 km fiber optical link, owned by local telephone provider. Provider gives to our partner one STM-64 circuit (from Huawei DSLAM(?)) which we need to convert to Ethernet on both sides. 100Mbps out of STM-64 will suffice for our partner, but I understand that ideally it can be up to 10Gbps(right?).

What type of hardware should be used for conversion? multiplexer? router? fiber optic modem? Could you recommend good reading on the subject?

We are going to implement new AD domain structure for organization with several branches through the country. Most of the branches have standalone Active Directories, some - just workgroups. AD is on Windows 2003 and Windows 2008, user PCs run Windows XP and Windows 7, new AD will be on Windows 2008.

Could you recommend good tool for user migration?

As I understood, same migration can be implemented for Exchange servers/accounts. Most of the branches currently access headquarter's mail server (Exchange) overseas; one or two branches use local mail servers. Would be great to automate migration process and optimize traffic if possible. Mail client is MS Outlook 2007, server will be Exchange 2007. Please recommend migration tool for Exchange.

Organization is going to receive a bunch of technical documents from contractor - drawings, procedures, etc. - for the whole plant.

Currently contractor keeps its project documentation in Lotus Domino.

  1. What software you recommend for Document Control?
  2. What is the best way for migration from Lotus?
  3. My organization uses SAP for maintenance, finance; it would be logical to extend SAP to document control as well, but I do not know if there are SAP modules for Document Control?
