Is there something equivalent to logstash-forwarder that can ship logfiles to fluentd?

I am trying to send log files from an application to a remote fluentd but have not seen whether this is possible via an agent somehow. I understand that you can make fluentd read logfiles when it runs on the same machine where the logfiles are produced (or copied) but I would love it whether something equivalent to logstash-forwarder exists.

Some more information: The system is a Debian 7 and the application logs in a file line-by-line. No syslog capability and that is why I am seeking for agents like logstash-forwarder instead that sort of tail -f logfile and send each new line at the remote fluentd.

We run a Python (Django) application that temporarily stores data in Redis. Sometimes though it happens that data by the time it gets to get stored in Redis is already expired and therefore setex is called with an expiration time of <= 0.

Is there a way to make Redis silently discard such a setex command without openly complaining with:

 ResponseError: invalid expire time in setex

Right now I cannot do that from the application.

Assuming one works with Ganglia in unicast mode only, is it possible to authenticate hosts that send data to gmond and gmetad or one needs to implement IP access lists only?

We are trying to migrate an application written on REE from cloud provider A to cloud provider B. The application code, VM specs and operating systems are the same. The basic difference is that cloud provider A uses Xen and paravirtualization while cloud provider B uses KVM and full virtualization. Oh yes and ulimit -a is similar on both setups.

However on cloud provider B we get very often errors like:

Message from application: An error occurred while starting the web application: it did not write a startup response in time. Please read this article for more information about this problem

Setup on provider A has real load and never had this kind of error. Setup on provider B crashes like this with one user at something like 18% of the time.

I've read the document but its solutions do not seem to apply in our case (we spawn directly and not smart due to connecting to Postgres), or if they do I hope people here can point out how.

Yes, I know that the better path is to move from REE upwards, and this is in the works, but changing the provider is now more pressing.

UPDATE:

According to the document possible causes are:

• Stdout redirection. This cannot be the case for in setup A it is not happening. I also checked whether the startup script redirects any file descriptors. It does not.

• Early termination in bash. I have disabled Phusion from reading .bashrc and the like to avoid this

• Server too busy. The server is new, not in production and tested by two people. So it is not busy.

• Application startup freeze, because of a loop or something or requesting something from NFS or S3. The applications is not talking to S3 (or other similar service) and not to NFS. If this is the case of an infinite loop I have to wonder why this is not happening on the current production setup (in place for 2+ years). Both setups are running the same codebase with the same data.

Is there a way to enforce UTF-8 encoding on POST operations for tomcat 7, regardless of what the browser may send to tomcat?

It is my understanding that nginx can query memcached for data that it serves, but you have to place them there using some other (homegrown) program. So the question is, can I have nginx fetch data from the backend and place them into memcached for future use for certain locations? Sort of not having to place all files from /images in it "by hand" but having them (mem)cached after being fetched for the first time?

Any backend other than memcached would suffice also.

Is there any document that explains the command line switches of megacli better than the cryptic output of megacli64 -h ?

The machine is an IBM x3650 m3 to which I added three more disks.

On a Windows 2008 R2 Server (Standard) I need to have a network drive mounted without having a specific user to log on to the machine first. Sort of like an NFS mount via fstab on Unix machines. The network drive will be a share via a BlackArmor (Seagate) appliance (which I presume runs Samba). The appliance can be a member of the domain if needed.

So far I have tried using Edit Group Policy -> Configuration -> Windows -> Scripts -> Startup where I had it execute

net use x: \\server\share /user:username password

With no success. Upon login the network drive was seen on Windows Explorer as a disconnected network drive.

There's a fairly complex application than runs on two VMs (on Xen). Both VMs run CentOS 6.2 with the exact same packages and configuration for every application running (minus networking which is different). SELinux is disabled on both.

On machine A the application builds perfectly. On machine B when running some tests we get:

Digging a bit more to find out where the machines differ, machine A has:

model name : Six-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2423 HE

and machine B:

model name : AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 6272

I've tried booting machine B with cpuid_mask_cpu=fam_10_rev_c in grub but it did not help either.

So any advice as to how to deal with this, or how to approach the hosting provider so as to run this VM on another physical machine will be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to manage a small XCP installation (less than 10 boxes) via the command line (and the xe command) or is using cloudstack or something similar almost mandatory?

The setup is simple: Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010 clients. I've setup a distribution group to include the CEO's secretaries and have used

Set-DistributionGroup -Identity [email protected] -GrantSendOnBehalfTo [email protected]

However the option to change the From: field does not appear in the Outlook 2010 of secretary1. Have I misunderstood something about -GrantSendOnBehalfTo ?

In my setup there exist user1, ..., [email protected]. Mail for example.com is handled by Exchange 2010 and all the users user Outlook 2010. There also exists a Standard Distribution list named [email protected]. Is it possible to have some of the users being able to send email with [email protected] as the sender address? Can the sender's GECOS be different too when this happens so that the recipient sees "Offices of Example.com" instead of "User Name X"?

So it seems that we have to connect iPhones and iPads on our network... Does an OpenVPN client for the iPad exist? If not, does a similar solution (where we control the VPN server) exist?

The users in questiong work with Outlook 2010 on an Exchange 2010 server. They share a calendar and can all view and update it. However, there is a need for a new class of users who need to be read only and only see that an entry on a given date and time is booked, without being able to see any details about it.

Is this possible?

The setup in question is as follows: Windows 7 64bit host running VirtualBox. The guest machine is running Windows XP 32bit.

After a power failure on the host box, the guest machine cannot boot and complains that

inconsistency between grain table and backup grain table

Any help to boot the guest machine without reinstalling it appreciated.

PS: What is a grain table anyway?

On the same 2008 R2 server installed are an Exchange 2010 SP1 and a BESX. Installation of BESX completed without any problems and by following the instructions provided by RIM's site. However whenever I log in as BESAdmin to the BSEX to try and activate a user, the activation email is not sent (and of course I am not getting any reply containing ETP.DAT from blackberry.net).

Any ideas?

I have a user who's using Outlook 2010 (Greek) to read his email from a POP3 (perdition in front of an ipop3d / UW-IMAP server). A few days now we're observing the following behavior:

Outlook when started tries to download new email. It (very slowly) downloads headers from all the messages and then starts to download messages. Some messages before finishing the download it fails with error 0x80060040. No new messages are shown to have been downloaded (not even those for which the counter was counting them as downloaded).

In case it matters, the user's .pst lives on an external USB disk and is over 3.5G.

The installation is a Windows 2008 R2 server with an Exchange 2010. I am trying to install BESX on it, for which a user account is needed to login on the domain controller and run the installer. I keep getting:

The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

Everytime I try to login, even after I add the "BESAdmin" account to either Administrators, Domain Controllers or both. I've even changed the Allow Local Login policy to even specifically include the account.

Another poster who had a similar problem with the same error message stated that this happens with new accounts (like in my case) or accounts that have no v2 profiles (?) yet. He self-answered that one should copy c:\users\default from another installation. I do not have that option, so I am really hoping for some other solution.

I need to integrate a number of iPhones and Blackberries with an Exchange 2010 installation. Is this possible, or do they only connect via webmail, POP3 and IMAP? I can take no for an answer :)

Has anybody ever tried HipHop or any other PHP acceleration method for SquirrelMail? Was it a plug-and-play thing, or did it require significant modification of the source code?
