I have install oracle linux 4.5 on server twice but having same problem. The server hangs on booting just displays "GRUB C" i don't know why is it happening.
Please advice is it the drive issue.
I have here DL380 G6 server, But i have not been able to install the redhat linux on it.
Its smart start disk do not have linux on it. When i directly boot from DVD it boots in GUI mode but when selects automatic partition it gives an error and after clicking ok it Reboots.
the error relates to disk.
Please advice
I want to calculate the average harddisk I/O.
Here i don't want to calculate the i/o currently performing on the system but also the capability of hard drive.

I want to know how to generate a fake load on linux server for testing purpose.
We have to get a new server. Before finalizing it we have to test it by generating a fake load so that it can fulfill our future needs.
Is there any software or utility for this purpose.

I have to install jre1.5.0_10 but jre1.6.0_16 is already installed.
How can i remove jre1.6.0_16. The application i am try to access requires jre1.5.0_10.

Here we have multiple servers which are running on different Operating systems, some are running on windows server 2003, red hat linux 4.0 and oracle unbreakable linux 4.
when we connect from client machine (which is running on windows XP) to servers running on linux using telnet it delays the connection for about 30 sec in showing login prompt.
But when we connect to servers which are running on windows, it connects immediatly .
this problem comes again and again and remains for about 10 to 15 days and then automatically get correct.
1 ) Why is this happening? 2 ) Is this a server problem or a network problem? 3 ) Explain in detail.
I want to know about how to view the disk I/O in linux so that i can check if i have to increase the ram.
Also the limits/thresholds after which i should increase the ram.

I have no idea on calculating the memory in linux. I think it says that 5088232 is used where as 7198224 is free, meaning it is actually consuming 5GB of RAM?
