Hopefully there is a simple answer to this but its something I dont understand right now.

5 days ago I colocated a windows server 2008 r2.

It has running on it a Hyper-v with pretty much only IIS7 and filezilla server.

The last 4 days I have spent migrating websites over. The wwwroot directory size is 150mb.

No databases are stored on this server.

However, in 5 days the size of the vhd has expanded from 10gb to well over 70gb!

The only change pretty much is the setup of these websites. How can I find out what's happened or where the space has gone?

My VPS hosting provider has agreed that I can use their DNS servers to present a more professional look by giving out vanity nameservers to my clients.

For example, they have said I need a DNS records directing ns1.MyDomain.com to the IP of ns1.VPSProvider.com.

Therefore any DNS queries sent to ns1.MyDomain.com will then be sent to the IP for ns1.VPSProvider.com instead and they will respond

The domain is registered with 123-reg. Therefore, how/where do I add a dns record for ns1.MyDomain.com would it be with 123-reg's help? Is it just a CNAME record of ns1?

Secondly, are their any disadvantages by having a vanity nameserver like this e.g. spam, google, rdns etc

Trying to make DNS changes to enable email to be sent using hMailServer.

My mail server is on a separate machine with a separate IP Address.

I have already added MyDomain.com and an email account

I have create a MX Record with the mail server being mail.domain.com an a priority on 20.

1) But the question is how do I now link this MX record for the domain to my mail server/ mail server IP Address?

2) What changes are needed in hMailServer to complete the process and be able to send emails for the domain?

3) In Settings > SMTP > Delivery of email: What should my configuration here look like?

I am currently setting up a domain name on windows server 2008r2 iis7

In the local hosts file I have mapped Domain.com and www.Domain.com to the localhost

The iis7 website has the bindings for Domain.com and www.Domain.com

However, from the internet the website only loads up when browsing to www.Domain.com

Is there something I am missing to make it work on Domain.com

Hi have a windows server 2008 running 3 VMs, that shall be co-located.

I have a few personal websites that needed reliable hosting in a full-trust environment, hence the investment in my own server.

However, as a small design business to offset some of these costs I would ideally like to offer very competitive hosting to my clients

Are there any tried/recommended alternative versions to Helm/Plesk that are out there which allow the automated management of hosting accounts by clients?

I'm currently in the process of colocating a windows server 2008 r2 running 3 hyper-v machines.

The co-location company has advised me to make the following example changes to my server:

For example IP Address: 83.145.229.65

Setup the IP Address on the server to be that of the one we have supplied and set your DNS as below:

1. Subnet: 255.255.255.0
2. Gateway: 83.145.229.1
3. Primary DNS: 87.117.198.200
4. Secondary DNS: 87.117.237.100
5. Tertiary DNS: 87.117.196.200

I have done made the changes above for the host server, but I assume I have to make identical changes to the hyper-v machines?

Does the Gateway last value increment for each machine?

I have been tasked with setting up asp.net websites on a windows server 2008 which are all in debug mode

When browsing a website on the server and an error occurs, for example the database connection cannot be open I would expect as per normal to receive the Asp.net Server error page with an error dump

However, what actually happens is I get random characters on the web page. For example: <֟)=����*��2o����v��YK�WuZ,�6[N��f�O��b��@!���u]S��yQ�iN�&e�̋�E���j��1z��x����˼�o�y����U֤˪Mϫ��2d�i�4

This is not the correct or expected behaviour. The event log does however show what has gone wrong.

How do I get the Server Error page to render properly, am I missing something in the servers asp.net setup?

I have a website that sends out email

The C# code to do this is:

var mailClient = new SmtpClient { DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Network, Host = "localhost", Port = 25 };

mailClient.Send(_mailMsg);

The code works fine as this website deployed on a Windows Server 2003 IIS6 works perfectly.

I have configured the SMTP service in IIS7 to deliver to localhost using port 25 and set authentication settings as not required.

Would anybody have any further assistance to help in being able to send emails with iis7 and windows server 2008?

I have no idea about servers or colocation.

But essentially when my IIS server is colocated does the server just need to be switched on to "work" or does a user (for e.g. Admin) need to be logged into windows for then IIS and other services to work?

This is such a newb question I understand that but I'm just trying to understand here.

I have 2 hyper-v machines

1. SQL 2008 Database VM
2. IIS 7 VM

I have setup a private virtual network between the 2 machines.

I can browse to one machines and log into it with that machines Admin password.

What I want to be able to do is set-up some sort of trust relationship between the VM's so that I do not get prompted for an Admin password when wanting to connect.

This is because in the web.config of a asp.net I simply want to be able to simply specify a Data Source=MACHINENAME for the SQL connection string

Is this possible and how do I go about accomplishing this?

I am looking at setting up my first server at a colocation.

I've no idea what I should really be going for, or what I need for adequate redundancy RAID 0 or RAID 1 etc.

The server will have Windows Server 2008 x64 installed on it.

It shall be used with many low traffic client websites some of which use Sql to store images etc.

The server will have to:

1. run IIS7
2. run as a windows domain nameserver
3. run SQL 2008
4. run Exchange 2010

I have done some research and found a HP ProLiant DL120 that seems good but costly.

Not sure if this would be overkill for my needs or just right considering the server will be utilised for a number of tasks.

The server comes with a hard drive but will I need a second for RAID 1? How does that work?

Anything aditional I need to add to this.. more memory etc?
