On Windows server 2016, when I execute, in a cmd prompt, "netstat -s" I get a bunch of statistics. One of those is "No Ports".
What does this mean? Is this the number of times no port was found to be available when requested? Or does this refer to the number of ports currently in use? Something else?
I'm using IIS on Windows Server 2016 with MySQL and PHP on two almost identical servers. I've recently noticed a slowdown on one of my two servers but it happens only when my site tries to execute multiple instances of a script at the same time. They seem to get stuck on each other.
A perfect example is my search page. When the user types in a search query, with each keyup (after the second letter) a search is executed as long as there's at least a 200 ms delay since the last keypress. So if you type fast, it only does one search at the end but for slower typers (those who wait more than 200 ms between key presses) this will trigger multiple calls to the search results. Notice all the pending requests and in this screenshot the first one just finished at 19.08 seconds. Obviously much too long. By the time they're all done they're all well over 15 seconds to return a simple resultset.

Keep in mind that these queries take just a fraction of a second when run in MySQL Workbench and also when run on my other server which is not suffering from this problem. See in this screenshot (from the good server) the exact same search returns in a quarter of a second.

It seems to me that (on the bad server) they're not able to execute simultaneously for some reason because if I execute just a single search (by typing quickly enough to trigger only a single search) it comes back quick, but if I execute multiples like this, they all get stuck like in a traffic jam. What could cause this?
This next screenshot shows the result if I trigger only a single search on the bad server. As you can see it comes back super fast. So the problem is only when executing multiples of the same script simultaneously.

I did make some changes to the bad server recently but as far as I can remember, the only changes I made were to allow bigger file uploads.
It's possible that I made other changes to this server that I can't remember.
TEMPORARY FIX
I can mitigate this problem by allowing a longer delay between key presses when searching, and I've done this, increasing it to 800 ms so even slow typers don't see this problem, but this is only a band aid solution and does not address the underlying issue which also affects other areas of my site.
WHAT I'VE TRIED
So far I've confirmed that my IIS config, MySQL config (my.ini) and my PHP config (php.ini) are all identical in every way that matters on both servers (at least as far as what seems obvious to me). I've also confirmed that the select statements I'm running in this search perform equally well on both servers if I execute them in MySQL Workbench. It's only in my web app where I'm having this problem.
I temporarily undid the two changes I made to IIS for larger file uploads just in case, but that seemed to make no difference.
I've also downloaded and installed LeanSentry which is warning me once or twice a day that my site has seen blocked requests, which I assume is exactly what I'm seeing here, but unfortunately LeanSentry can only pinpoint the source of the problem with ASP pages, not PHP. So it essentially only confirms for me that there's a problem but it can't help me beyond that.
OTHER SYMPTOMS
I see similar problems if I open multiple reports simultaneously. If I allow one report to finish loading before opening the next one they all load quickly, but if I force my app to open multiple reports at once, they all get stuck.
What could be causing this issue of bottlenecking?
I'm doing some testing (on my dev server) to help me figure out what is causing the ever growing list of connections on my production server. My assumption is that there are certain pages that are not closing the connection using mysql_close(). So I'm trying to first of all confirm what is creating the connections, and then confirm how to make sure they're closed.
To do this I created a simple script to create a connection, followed by a mysql_close() to close the connection. Unfortunately, my testing is at a standstill because I can't even confirm that I'm creating connections.
When I execute the following code (notice mysql_close()) is commented out, I would expect to see a new connection in my client connections list, and I would expect it to kill itself after 20 seconds since I've set the wait_timeout to 20. However, no connection even seems to be created.

I even added a simple select statement to confirm that I'm making a connection, and I am. Why does this connection not show in my Client Connections list in MySQL Workbench? I'm also using another tool (MySQL Diagnostic Manager) to show me the current threads and it's not showing there either.
What am I missing here?
I'm running Windows, IIS, MySQL, PHP.
In my.ini under [mysqld] the value for wait_timeout is set to 60.
wait_timeout = 60
But when I execute the following:
show variables like 'wait_timeout';
It shows me that the value is 28800, which I know is the default.
So I tried to set the value by executing the following:
SET GLOBAL wait_timeout = 60;
But this doesn't seem to work. MySql Workbench tells me "0 rows(s) affected" and when I execute show variables like 'wait_timeout' it still tells me that the value is 28800.
I've also checked interactive_timeout and the story is the same. The value is 28800 and I can't change it.
What am I missing here?
I run a small internet based business from home and make a living at it to feed my family, but I'm still a one man show and internet security is far from my area of expertise.
Yesterday I received two emails from a guy who calls himself an "ethical hacker" and has identified two vulnerabilities in my system which he says could be exploited by hackers. I believe him.
The problem is, at the bottom of each email he says he "expects a bounty to be paid". Is this black mail? Is this his way of saying you'd better pay me or I'm going to wreak havoc? Or is this a typical and legitimate method for people to make a living without any nefarious intentions?
EDIT: For more clarification: He gave me two examples of vulnerabilities with screenshots and clear instructions on how to fix those vulnerabilities. One was to change the "?all" part of my SPF record to "-all" to block all other domains from sending emails for my domain. In the other email he explained how my site was able to be shown inside an iframe (enabling a technique called "clickjacking") and he also included an example of the code and instructions on how to prevent it.
Using IIS on a dedicated Windows Server 2016 I have a site running on my server (dev.timesavr.net) with SSL. This site has been running for at least a year now. Now I've added a second site on the same server with a different domain (dev.benjicare.com) but I'm not able to access it from outside the server.
Both sites are bound to dedicated IP addresses. I've seen lots of suggestions on this site (and others) to use "Host Headers" in order to make IIS host multiple domains, but those can only work with unsecured sites. I need to use IP addresses because I need to use SSL for both, so both websites in IIS are bound to their own unqiue IP addresses.
dev.timesavr.net is already accessible via SSL. I haven't yet got a certificate for dev.benjicare.com but at this point I'm trying to just get it working without SSL. I can access it in a browser only if I'm on the server itself (via RDP), but from any other machine I can't access it. After it tries to connect for about 30 seconds it eventually times out and says "This site can't be reached".
I've already created an A dns record to point my IP to dev.benjicare.com and that's working as it should as you can see here: https://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/dev.benjicare.com
I've also checked the firewall to see if the WWW inbound rule on port 80 was restricting IP addresses but it's not. What else am I missing here to make this work? It seems like this should be pretty straight forward.
I'm moving an existing PHP/MySQL website application to a new server and for some reason I'm getting a "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" error after I login.
I've installed PHP and MySql and copied the database over. I've configured the website in IIS and I can load the login page, which also does a database connection, so I know that I'm able to connect to the database and I know that PHP is working properly.
However, as soon as I enter in a username and password, it chugs for a minute before it finally tells me it can't connect.

That's the error I get on Chrome but I get a similar error in Firefox.
At first I thought maybe it was because it was redirecting to https and I don't have a security certificate installed yet, but that wouldn't prevent the page from loading.
I've double checked that the user privileges on the DB match exactly the old server, so I know that's good and the login page is in the same folder location as the page I'm trying to redirect to so obviously the file system privileges are good.
What could be causing this ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error?
I am running a PHP/MYSQL website on Windows Server 2012 using IIS 8. I had performance issues on my old server with the CPU spiking above 100% during peak times.
So I've just upgraded my server to a DUAL 8 core Intel® Xeon® E5-2630V3 2.4GHz CPU setup with 64 Gigs of RAM, which is essentially four times the number of cores I had on my old server yet I'm still having the same performance issues. My total CPU is still spiking above 100%.
To make a long story short, I believe my issue is likely related to either PHP or MySQL config (or both). I have been using the default my.ini for MySQL since day 1 (I've only upped the max_input_vars and post_max_size) but I see that there are a number of other config files included with MySQL that sound more appropriate for my server load (my-huge.ini, my-large.ini, etc.).
There is also one called my-template.ini which is the only other ini file that talks about mysql_max_connections. This value is currently set to 100 but according to my calculations I should be able to bump that up to 800, although I'm not sure if this would make any difference in my CPU spikes, and the fact that it is not even included in any of the other sample ini files makes me wonder if it even matters.
Anyways, as you can tell I'm a novice at this server config stuff. I'm primarily just a coder so I'm looking for some help in this matter. Can I simply try one of the other mysql config files and see if that makes a difference?
ADD: I believe I have all the proper indexes on my tables and my queries are not overly complex and when there are very few users on the site, it is very fast.
