I've two DS2401 Mcdata switches. One is pinging fine and accessible while the other is not.switch is not responding to ping or http requests.

I 'm inable to login to my fabric CISCO switch ( MDS 9506) through management IP It's giving an error- when logging it from Device manager
"10.20.XX.XX" timed out
Busy Network, No Route, or snmpd is unresponsive.
Fabric manager has also become unmanagable
SNMP engine ID discovery timed out
--Busy Network
--No route from null/0.0.0.0
-- 10.20.XX.XX is unresponsive
Plus, i 'm unable to ping the management ip ( 10.20.XX.XX) ; unable to telnet.
Has any one encountered this b'fore?

We 'll be migrating the data from NS704G(memphis) to NS480(in dallas). My question is,how the access and share permissions the users 've in Memphis location 'd be effected once the migration is going on. Would all the access be replicated to the new celerra as it is ?Because , we have a security team handling the access rights on NAS and according to them there's no tool available to replicate the share permission and this needs to be done individually.
I will appreciate if someone can elaborate this to help me understand this better.
Besides, Can i create a new share in my celerra NS480 located in Dallas and ask the other team to transfer the permissions, say from nas6/urs21$, to my newly created share and see if it works...

I want a command to run automatically on my NAS control station which is linux based.
nas_pool -size -a to run everyday at 12 AM .
I have my Control station IP added to exchange server and getting mail to my ID using mail -v [email protected]
I want the NAS utilization report to run nas_pool -size -a which gives the output as:

can somebody help me with how to configure this output to my mail ID.

Does this mean the checkpoint feature is disabled for the share because of SavVol full or something? i am unable to understand this..
Do i get an option in CLI to check for the SavVol used? As far as i know, this shouldn't be happening since we use AVM feature and have HWM set up ,SavVol is auto expandable in this case>> Any help will be appreciated!

Is it anything related to changes that have gone to the NAS volumes . I am getting the error "security id structure invalid" when I try to add users to Home folder on NAS volumes I have tried to add the permissions from the domain controllers it is giving me the same error.
there was a upgrade of NAS servers for EMC ( EMC celerra with gateway clariion ) but it didn't take place due to control station failure. Is this error related upgrade??

When i go to \nas6\usr7$ share and right click the folder ,Under security when i try to give permission it states- "unable to save permission changes on Ze175"(folder name) " security id structure invalid" . The same thing happenes when trying from domain controllers.
Could you tell me is this error related to upgrade.Please advice

I was thinking of making the share read only from celerra manager( CIFS only) by R clicking on file system.
"the NAS share (\nas12\termemployee$) to read-only to lock it from any further updates"
But , i see somebody has already mapped this network drive and then from security tab has applied the Domain Admins and has given permission to( Allow) "read and execute ,list folder contents , read" .
This has grayed out apply tab for more than an hour now.Is this the right way to do ? Please advice , since i am worried if this is going to cause any problem.

Can the EMC grab utility be used on ESX hosts?
Here is my issue, we have 170 unix servers , 80 ESX servers and many Windows (2003/2008)s pread across 3 EMC Clariions and 2 VMAX in which I want to perform host grabs on all the servers prior to flare code upgrade as well as , sort of, forcing server team to install powerpath instead of native agents.We have all flavors of OS from Windows, Unix, Linux, AIX, etc we have it all.
We have been frequently receiving issue related to one path going invisible .Lately, this case has increased a lot and all the root cause for this is native path not configured properly.
I need to know what is the simplest way to accomplish this task because the difficulty is that I have these servers with 10 different system admins for all these servers. My problem is that it takes too much coordination and time spent with each Admin to get them to run the grab utility on each of their servers and have them each send me the Grab output for each host. This is too much work for one storage admin to supervise since I have to email them the grab program with instruction. Then I have to make sure they each send back the grab output file to me to upload the result to EMC.
Does anyone have a strategy or suggestion on how to make this process easier???

I like your idea of having the groups make it a habit of running grabs on a routine basis. But how would they automate that?
Is there a script that easily be written on each host to run the emc grab weekly and dump it somewhere? So I assume this would be a schedule such like "Scheduled Tasks" in Windows or "crontab" in Unix.
If anyone has any samples on how to write that script please do share.

I have a question on planning. Recently, I got a request to create 2 625GB Luns (clariion cx-240), FC Connected, to ESX server 4.0 (four new hosts). I don't know the application they would be running. However, I only had option to carve luns from raid 5. All FC disks, and i did not look for number of disks in the raid group just looked for capacity. These existing raid groups are used for many applications -DB2, SAP and other. would that make any difference b'cause i am taking luns from 20 RGs.
This is what I did, created 2 metas. Now, to start with the raid groups I had, like I said, all RAID5. So I decided to take 10 luns of 63GB and another 63GB with 10 luns. Then I created a meta for each and allocated the storage, assigned all the four hosts to that SG.
So I've presented 630 + 630 i.e a total of 1260 GB and the request was for 1250GB. Now my question is, is it the best practice to convert the GBs to block and allocate, so that exact requirement is fulfilled.
Another thing I want to clarify is, I decided to take luns small in size so that the I/O impact is not much. Could I have done some thing better while provisioning this requirement? (lun size while creating meta)
Please advise me so that I can make sure I allocate the best way next time...

is provisioning storage in VMAX difficult? I am not getting any sort of training from my manager .There's going to be requests fro the clients in provisioning storage to their hosts (cluster, stand alone) . I have gone through few doc but there's not much information there.I request guys here to help me with a proper link ,if not the explanation ,on how to provision storage from VMAX.

I have an issue here, a blade has gone faulty a couple of days back. Now one of the servers (Unix) is having I/O errors. I've troubleshooted from Clariion end and everything is fine.
I need to clear the port stats for port 371(recommended by EMC), which actually is under the Index column.
In order to clear the port do I have to run the portstatsclear 12/35 (slot/port) which shows in the row where index 371 is and observer for 24 hours for any error?
Do I have to only look for CRC errors after clearing if error are increasing or something else?
The command I will be using is porterrshow.
And how do i know when were the errors cleared last?

How do I calculate the "Total Usable Storage Size" in clariion -Cx3 20C (I'm little confused here on how to proceed with the calculation)? I have the raw storage size from the disk summary (included the hot spare).I know the used storage size ,calculated from storage group.
I need to calculate the total available storage size = Total usable storage size- Used storage size.
How do you calculate the total usable storage size?
Note: Do I need to go to Array > R click > Bind Lun and then look for free capacity under each raid group?
How do I go for celerra?
*I do not have ECC enabled.

In cisco (FC switches) we've it mentioned something like fc1/6 or fc2/4 meaning fc switch blade 1 port 6 or FC switch blade 2 port 4.
I would like to know what exactly that blade means??
