I'm trying to get RavenDB running in embedded mode on a shared/multi-tenant webhost. RavenDB relies on the ESENT storage API. The filesystem on the hosting machines is locked down. The RavenDB Initialize() call results in the following eventlog entry

Raven (20604) D:\Path\To\Website\App_Data\RavenDB\Data52e0e402-79d7-4f47-a219-3d1e2e73321c: An attempt to determine the minimum I/O block size for the volume "D:\" containing "D:\Path\To\Website\App_Data\RavenDB\logs\" failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied. ".  The operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).

So presumably the executing process needs access to read some volume information and that is denied because the process is only given permissions to the parts of the volume relevant to it.

Anyone know what the relevant rights are, and whether they can be omitted somehow?

For reasons of script portability, I need to dynamically load snap-ins in a PowerShell script (ie. I don't want to actually install it). This is easily accomplished in PowerShell v2 with the Load-Module function. I need to run this particular script on a machine where I, for various reasons, do not want to install PowerShell v2, but have v1.

Is there a Load-Module equivalent in PowerShell v1?

I have two servers (one LAMP, one Windows) and one website with an associated blog. I'm running the main site on the Windows server, and the blog on the LAMP server, using Wordpress. The main site is accessed at http://folketsting.dk (it's in Danish -- sorry), the blog is accessed at http://blog.folketsting.dk (this link is bad, read on).

The main site works fine. The blog works, except for the frontpage. Example of working post: http://blog.folketsting.dk/2009/10/09/ftlive/. The frontpage of the blog (http://blog.folketsting.dk) shows html from http://folketsting.dk however (except for the css and javascript). In fact, any other URL than the frontpage "works", and gets served by Wordpress e.g. http://blog.folketsting.dk/foo.

I cannot -- for the life of me -- understand how the LAMP server running http://blog.folketsting.dk manages to serve up content generated by the Windows server running http://folketsting.dk. Looking at the response headers at http://blog.folketsting.dk, it's evident that the content originates from Apache, not IIS.

I'm pretty sure it's not a DNS-issue, since the problem is evident even when accessing the raw IP, eg. http://130.226.142.141/ vs. http://130.226.142.141/foo. I'm thinking it's a bad config in Apache... any clues?

UPDATE: As requested, here's the apache conf file for the non-working site. Incidentally, another Wordpress blog is running on the server (though not on a subdomain), and it is not exhibiting this quirk.

I run a bunch of servers on no budget. I have several fast 1U ones, but they haven't enough storage and no more can be added. I want to build a DIY SAN running Linux with some SSD's. Mounting storage from the SAN on the servers would be possible using iSCSI, but I'm worried about the latency overhead of TCP and SCSI.

So I thought I might use eSATA instead. I realise there are cable-length limitations and that it's a lot less flexible, but that is OK. I also sort-of-assume that some of the consumer-grade SANs run embedded Linux and they seem to be able to pull of this feat. Googling has revealed no info on how to get Linux to export storage to other machines over eSATA. Can it be done?

I'm trying to install Windows XP SP3 Professional on a Thinkpad X20. It has no optical drive, so I'm installing on a T40p and then moving the drive to the X20. Windows installed fine on the T40p, but when I first tried booting the moved disk on the X20 it hung at AGP440.sys. With that disabled, I get as far as Mup.sys.

I seem to remember installing Windows on the X20 before using this manoeuvre and the T40p, although it was certainly with an older version of Windows XP. Even so, it seems that the install generated on the T40p is just too specific to boot on the X20. Does anyone have ideas as to how I may resolve this, without having to install again on an older laptop, more similar to the X20?
