I have a server application that I'm running two instances of, production and development, namely:

prod.example.com (10.0.0.1)
dev.example.com (10.0.0.2)

A third-party has written a client application which has been hardcoded to point to prod.example.com. But, I want those requests to go to the dev.example.com server and I don't have access to the third-party source code.

I do have access (temporarily) to the LAN that the client and server are running on so I can use dnsmasq to resolve prod.example.com to 10.0.0.2, at which point my work here is done and the client application will be (unknowingly) talking to the development server (or so I thought).

I've gotten as far as adding the following config to dnsmasq.conf..

address=/prod.example.com/10.0.0.2

..which does work, but it has the side-effect of preventing all other domains from resolving.

How can I have my cake and eat it?

This a shared web server for our office and normally runs just fine with a few devs working on it simultaneously.

However, I've recently started working with it using Wordpress and it's XMLRPC API feature and things turned sour. I'm making an iPhone app that requests data from the API, the responses of which are around 5k-8k in size.

The server ends up in the state shown below after sending one batch of API requests. After a few minutes it returns to normal with load averages of, right now, 0.08, 0.81, 0.93

Can anyone diagnose this? I have no clue how to interpret all the columns. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have my web server set up running multiple sites and host them all in ~/sites/, outside apache document root (~/www), as follows:

    +-project2/
    | +-system/
    | +-application/
    | +-public_html/
    |   +-images/
    |   +-css/
    |   +-index.php

I order to make sites available via the web I create a symlink in ~/www/, as below:

+-~/
  +-www/
    +-project1 -> ~/sites/project1/public_html
    +-project2 -> ~/sites/project2/public_html

With this set up I end up with domain.com/project1 and domain.com/project2 pointing to my ~/sites/projectx directories and can easily change where they point to take a site offline.

The problem I'm having is how to host domain.com outside the document root; I can't set up a symlink like the others because the symlink would have to be ~/www/ which obviously can't be used.

TLDR; I want to set up ~/sites/domain/public_html to be served when domain.com is requested.

When's the best time to create the trunk, branches and tags directories?

I have executed svnadmin create --fs-type fsfs /home/firefli/web/projects/subversion and have myself a blank repo. If I create, say, the trunk directory using svn mkdir file:///home/firefli/web/projects/subversion/trunk it works fine but I go to revision 1.

Not that going to revision 1 is a problem, I'm just sure I've done it differently before and I'm looking for the best practice.
