I have a new server with no OS. I setup BIOS to boot from the DVD drive.

I opended the ISO file for Windows 2008 RS using PowerISO. Then burned it to DVD.

I insert the DVD in and when I boot up I get error: NTLDR is corrupt the system cannot boot

Debugging steps:

I tried both Win 2008 Standard and Web editions.

I also tried renaming the files, like changing: en_windows_web_server_2008_x64_dvd_x14-26683.iso to: 26683.iso

I also tried burning it at a slower speed: 2x

Same error each time.

Any ideas?

I see: Windows Web Server 2008 R2 Limit on X64: 32 GB In my system display, I see: Only 16 GB are usable. Any ideas?

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server with RDP access enabled. However I'm not limited access by IP.

Why..

I'm a 2 person company so all server issues I have to care of.

Last weekend I was out hiking and I got call from a client that their site was down. Using an iPhone (with the RDP client app) I was able to connect to the server recycle the IIS app pool and save the day from all from the top of a mountain.

However this is not very secure. I need to limit RDP access by IP address. However the iPhone does not have a static address, it changes all the time. The only thing static about it is that the host name always contains ".mycingular.net"

Is there anyway I can limit RDP access by hostnames (with wildcards, e.g." *.mycingular.net)

I have a 150 GB hard drive on a windows 2008 server.

• 87 GB partition for D:\
• 10 GB partition for C:\

I cannot extend/increase the partition for C:\ in the disk manager utility. as described here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/resize-a-partition-for-free-in-windows-vista/ I tried doing it through the command: http://www.winvistaclub.com/t11.html

However I got the error: There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation.

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Web edition server. Is there are way I can remote desktop connect entirely through a browser. Meaning if "Remote Desktop Connection" on my pc is blocked, I can still connect?

I'm not 100% sure how to phrase this: While installing Win 2008 the screen asked me where to install the OS (I only have 1 hard drive) It said: 2 GB was partioned for the OS and 160 GB were remainining. I wanted to create a fresh partition just for the OS So I added a new one with 10 GB and continued.

However now its looks like I only have a single 10 GB hard drive. Other than re-installing the OS again, how can I get the other 150 GB to appear as another disk drive?

I've found a few posts on this site, however my situation is different.

I have a new Dell server with no OS installed. I would like to install Windows 2008 Web Edition. I have a few USB ports and Ethernet. No CD or DVD drives.

Is this article the best & only way to proceed? Installing Windows 2008 via USB thumbdrive or should I just get a external hardrive and hook it up to a usb. Once the OS is installed I'll never need a DVD drive again - so that's idea is a waste of money.

I have a dynamic ip address with my DSL provider. My domains are at GoDaddy.com and I use their total dns service. So I guess this would be the equivalent of "ZoneEdit.com"

Is it possible to host the sites on a server that's connected to this DSL line?

Or must I have a static ip? Yes, I'm aware the the static ip is easier route.

I have a VPS (IIS7 with Win 2008)

It's got: 40 websites and a SQL Server 2008 powering them with only 2 Gigs of RAM.

None of the sites are mission critical, they are all just demos. I often have ram issues on the server because each site has does caching and generally uses a lot of memory.

Would it make sense to set the application pools to recycle every 3 hours?

I'm sure this would free up any memory leaks or processes left "hanging"

Are there any other tips on this?

I have 50 demo sites (running on .Net 3.5) that are very resource intensive. So shared hosting or using a Virtual Server is not working out. These sites are not production and do not use a lot of bandwidth.

I can buy a server from Dell for about $600 that will work nicely, however I do not want to pay $100+ for the colocation. How hard is it to configure my router & server to host a bunch of websites off that server from my house over Verizon dsl? It's ok if the url's contain funny port #s. Like: http://demo6.mydomain.com:444

I'm aware that verizon does not allow this - please don't remind me here.

I have a Windows 2008 virtual server. Some how every week my server uses an extra 2 gigs and I do not know the reason. Are there any free utility tools that can scan a server and let you know whats gobbling up space?
