I need a software that would let me search files on my file server from other computers on the local network. My file server runs OpenSolaris. Preferably something that would offer the search via web page.
How to change primary user group of a user? Preferably without losing the current primary group altogether as the user is part of 'staff' ie. admin. I suppose I could create another admin user and then recreate the original user, but is there a simpler way?
can anyone recommend a Sata pci or pci-e card that is compatible with OpenSolaris? Raid isn't necessary as aim is to use ZFS.
I ended up getting:
- Intel sasuc8i (based on LSI 1068)
- Dell 5/i SAS (Dell code UCS-51)
- Sil3124 based card
Both are very cheap(sil3124 ~$50, Dell $25 including cables), 4 port and work reasonably well using OpenSolaris build 132. The Dell card doesn't always play nice on Intel chipset boards. It requires taping pins 5-6 from the pci-e connector.
Is it possible to get linux server to share several hard drives as one storage pool through Samba? So that when I use the share I don't have to worry about saving to a certain drive that has free space, but rather I save to the pool that takes care of all that.
I guess I could do this through some kind of (software) raid, but a lot of my files don't really need to be raided. My aim is to have a setup where I have ~500GB raided and a few TB unraided space.
I currently have a light W2008 server and would like to move to linux and this would be really nice feature to have.
