We provide all of our users with a mapped network drive (H:) which we have re-directed my documents to. Using FSRM on the file server, each user is restricted to 5GB of disk space.

Windows automatically sets this up as an offline folder, and the sync works well, especially for laptop users who are often away from the network.

When users are connected to the LAN, Windows Explorer shows how much of their 5GB quota they are using. However... when they disconnect from the LAN, it shows how much space is free on their local drive.

Consequently, users who work a lot of the time on slow network links and are mostly in offline mode can exceed their quota whilst offline. When they return to the office and connect to the LAN, they find they can't save data any longer.

Is there someway to configure windows to keep track of the quota, and display the free space to users whilst working in offline mode?

(This issue appears to be even worse with Windows 8, which prefers to work in offline mode all of the time by default, even on fast networks)

I'm running a shell script that pipes data from one process to another

process_a | process_b

Does anyone know a way to find out how many bytes were passed between the two programs? The only solution I can think of at the moment would be to write a small c program that reads from stdin, writes to stdout and counts all the of the data transfered, storing the count in an environment variable, like:

process_a | count_bytes | process_b

Does anyone have a neater solution?

We have recently opened a branch office for developers to work out of. The guys there all have Aastra VoIP 'hard' phones on their desks.

The main office and branch offices are linked together via a VPN (using two Sonicwall Firewalls) the VoIP PBX we have is a Trixbox installation, interfacing to 4 PSTN lines.

Most of the time this setup works great, but if someone opens a file on a server at the 'other' end of the link the call quality drops off.

Is there some easy (and cheap) way we can make the VoIP traffic a higher priority?

Does anyone know the settings I need to get a Nokia E71 to connect to a Sonicwall GroupVPN connection?
