I have a SQL Server 2008 Standard version. Mirroring is set up on the server in full safety mode. It has been working fine till today. The transaction log back-up fails every-time with an error

Description: Executing the query "BACKUP LOG [JuneDB] TO DISK = N'H:\BKs\Hou..." failed with the following error: "Read on "E:\LDFs\JuneDB.ldf" failed: 1(Incorrect function.)
BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly

• I am using a Maintenance plan for taking backups.
• The drive also contains log files of 5 other databases and their log backups are fine.
• This problem started after successfully completing rebuild indexes maintenance plan.
• Full backups do not have any problem.

I am not able to identify why reading the log file of this one database is erroring out. How am I supposed to proceed on this issue.

Things I tried

• Ran DBCC CHECKDB([JuneDB]) WITH NO_INFOMSGS returned no error messages
• Ran a query to take transaction backup instead of using a Maintenance plan. It gave same error

Update I just noticed at 4:30 AM we ran a maintenance plan to rebuild all indexes. Looking at the error log, I started getting errors for Transaction log backups after 4:30 Am. I am not sure how rebuild indexes could possibly cause the transaction log backups to fail but they sure seem related

We design websites for Realty companies. The websites are used only to display the information and all the websites share a common template. We have around 150 websites for different customers. Some third party data providers, provide us all the updates about each listing on the website on hourly basis. The updates for each customer happens during separate hours. On average we have 1000 listings per website. And on every hourly update 80% of the data is changed or updated.

Right now we have a single database in Sql server 2008, for all the customers(Designed initially to cater 10-20 websites). The tables in the database are shared by all. The problem is whenever an update happens, it slows down other customers websites also, that are not at all related to the update. Also deleting a customers data, slows down all the sites.

I am planning to remodel the database by creating a separate schema for each customer, but I am not sure if it is the best way to handle our problem. Having a separate database creates many problems for maintenance(Backups, mirroring etc). Can anyone suggest me a better way to handle this issue. I am not sure how it affects the performance, if I create a separate schema for each customer and isolate their tables form others. Or is there any better solution?

I have a mirrored database in full safety mode on sql server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. I want to create a maintenance plan to rebuild and reorganize the indexes on a weekly basis. Maintenance plans are set to take full backups 3 times a day and transaction log backups every 30 minutes. The database is very active and gets lot of traffic. I tried rebuilding the indexes manually during non peak hours and that caused the log file to grow heavily on the principle as well as on the mirror.

Are there any specific steps to be followed for rebuilding indexes in a mirroring environment? I searched online but could not find any difference in the way indexes are rebuilt in mirroring and without mirroring.

Also can I just use DBCC SHRINKFILE on the principle to free the unused space in the log file without stopping the mirroring?

I have a windows server 2008 R2 standard edition. The system suddenly stopped accepting remote desktop connections. When I tried to connect directly to the console, I am unable to start any applications. I got errors "The page file is to small to complete the action". Under takmanager in performance the system shows "Commit(GB) 127/127". What does this imply?

The system has 32 GB ram, 5 raid disks each 150 Gb

I have a server running on Windows server 2008 R2. It is recently added as a member of a domain. I am not able to start any applications in thew server. When I tried to open Event viewer it errored out saying "The page file is to small to complete the action".

I am experiencing same problem when I tried to open Sql server Management studio, task scheduler or any other application. The windows server serves as a production database server, but our applications are not experiencing any problems. Can someone please help?

I have a server running on windows server 2008. Recently we created a domain and added it to the domain. Also it is promoted as an additional domain controller on the network. A domain user account was created with same username and password as my previous local administrator account. Now I unable to login using my local account. I tried loggin in using SERVERNAME\Username, but it is giving incorrect password error message. Is there any way I can retrieve or create a new local administrator account on a domain computer

I am trying to change the account of sql server service from LocalSystem to a domain user account. It is giving me an error "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done"

The server is an additional domain controller in the network. Before changing the service account to domain user I have created the domain user login from windows in sql server. Can someone please help?

I have a server running on windows web server 2008, SP2(64 bit). I want to upgrade it to windows server 2008 R2 Standard edition.

Do I need to buy a new windows server 2008 R2 Standard edition license? I could not find anything on the Microsoft website about supported free upgrades.

I have domain controller installed in a network and another server which acts as a backup DC. When the primary DC fails, How does other objects in the network know to connect to backup DC to resolve DNS and use it for authentication purposes. IS there a way to implement automatic failover for primary DC?

We have production server(windows server 2008) with 8GB Ram and around 15 websites are hosted on the server. What is the optimum memory that needs to be reserved for OS, so that remaining memory can be divided between the websites. We don't have any other processes or applications running on the server other than websites.

We are experiencing Memory issues every time we update the dll's using SVN. The IIS process(w3wp.exe) takes up more than 1GB of memory which is usually 300 - 400 Mb under normal conditions. So every time we update dll's we had to recycle the application pool. Is it because the old dlls are still cached even after updating them? Do we need to follow any specific procedure for updating the dll's?

The IIS worker processes are taking lot of memory on our servers. I want to limit the memory each application can use. I am confused whether I should set a limit on Virtual Memory Limit, or Private Memory Limit. Each application in our IIS is on its own application pool.

If I set private memory limit to 500MB and virtual memory limit to 3GB. When does the application pool recycle? Does it recycles after reaching 500MB or after reaching 3GB.

I want to set the max limit on the physical memory an application can use in IIS 7. Should I set a limit on Private Memory Limit or Virtual Memory Limit? Can some one point me to documentation of all settings in IIS 7

The Virtual Memory Limit(KB) setting in IIS 7 on our production server has a value 0. Does it means our application is not using any virtual memory or does it means, there is no maximum limit on the amount of virtual memory that can be used?
