I have been trying to build up a window's 7 and 2k8 EFI deployment ISO or USB. But struggling to to even get an ISO to boot from even VMware Workstation EFI implementation. The problem is there is no clear requirement to what the EFI bootloader is looking for, "e.g EFI boot file" even ISO's and USB's that are bootable don't find the required .efi file.

I'd like to know what is the process EFI bootloader follows to boot the EFI file. e.g;

in a EFI windows system its; C:\Windows\Boot\EFI\bootmgfw.efi

From DVD it's; F:\efi\microsoft\boot\cdboot.efi

from what people tell me it's on USB; G:\efi\boot\bootx64.efi (bootmgfw.efi renamed)

I've been testing on a HP notebook with EFI 2.0 and VMware Workstation 8.0 with .vmx file firmware = "efi"

So I have been on the lookout for a master tool to manage all my Integrated management adapters on our servers here. Such as Dell DRAC, HP Integrated Lights-out and IBM's RAC

e.g mRemoteNG works great for OS level access, RDP, VNC, SSH etc.. But is there such a tool to handle direct access to the Remote Console's, virtual media etc..

I know allot of Blade systems have this, but we are talking about 100's of servers ;)

Would like to hear your experiences in solving this problem and if any simple tools help, Third-party tools welcome but simple portable ones ;)

Hi using w32tm or some other service (NTP W32Time) is there away to increase the accuracy of windows time to sync at-least every 1sec? Whats setup; windows 2003 AD environment with a few servers and AD clients. At the moment when users log on to the domain they will sync their time with the AD. However most of the users logged on to the servers stay logged in and will lose sync after some time. And all clients and servers have static IP’s. So I’m looking to setup NTP to update more frequently the time on all servers and clients as the application running on the system require very accurate time sync

Any Idea's?

I have a windows AD server setup with a few user groups, however I need to add a policy so that any user that log into the domain items or the entire start menu should be disabled. I can use Group Policy editor to do it locally (gpedit.msc) however It would be ideal if the policy could be set to a group using the Group Policy Management Console,

Has anyone managed to implement specific polices to a object in GPMC?

I'm trying to verify the version of Lotus Domino server from a new client I installed, I installed Lotus notes 8.5 and the mail template is of the old 6.5, however I've been told we have the version 8, but my guess is in the mail cluster not all servers are using the new v8 template but just aren't upgraded yet. Would there be anywhere I can find in the logs or notes client where it will show connection details etc..

I've been testing some software in a server virtual environment and I've noticed I get a huge amount of CPU usage on the Interrupts process.

My question is, how does this relate to the virtual hardware platform as the rate is allot lower in a real system. Some how the hypervizor scheduler works hard to over come this problem but not as well as on real hardware does.

Obvious things are high I/O and disk access but this application mostly just sits and works in memory allot.

If anyone has experienced the same, please let me know. thanks in advance

I know this is really a off-topic question, but it is so differcult to get a clear picture of the cost of a vSphere setup, you have prices from all direction, when you order a server, or just go to vmware.com and buy the 4 different packages,

So far i've found this; VMware vSphere 4 Essentials $995.00 VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Plus $3700

Does this include the licence for ESXi to be installed on 3 server, with 2 socket CPU's + vCenter to manage them or do I still have to pay for each ESX host licence.

The missleading part is here they stay "1 processor up to X cores for servers with up to 256GB of memory" however how many hosts? http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/vsphere_purchaseoptions.html Then in the SMB offer page it says "3 servers with up to 2 processors each" but no mention on how many CPU cores per processor. http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/vsphere_smbpurchaseoptions.html

I know this has nothing related to Sysadmin tech stuff, but it's a bugger when your trying to find people this stuff.

I have a server that after the first configuration it was DHCP, now I have added it to our domain and in a static IP, however after a few moments it returns to DHCP but with only some of the IPv4 setting staying the same, It loses DNS for example.

I'm not sure what is causing the problem but all I know is this started to happen after I added it to the domain, Would it be a domain policy? or the NIC drivers

I have a blade chassis that I want to be able to fetch the power budget stats from it's web inteface, however this data i'm unable to fetch using SNMP, i've checked ;)

however I should be able to crawl the management web interface for this data, by just initiating a login, fetch the HTML page the grep out the proper fields.

Any ideas?
