I have a Windows 2008 server and am running IIS 6 SMTP on it. Occasionally email will stop working and when I log into the server I see that the SMTP Virtual Server has stopped.
What are some causes for this and is there a way I can auto correct the issue by having it start up again by itself or something similar?
Also, if there isn't a good way to keep it running without user intervention is there something else I can use for a SMTP server that is easy to setup?
At work they want me to create a service account to run the app pool for my web application in iis under.
Why would this be useful and/or necessary?
Someone else setup my laptop with SQLServer. My windows account is a user but is not a sysadmin.
I don't know the sa password and I have no way of finding it.
How can I reset the sa password or make my account (which is an admin on the machine) a sql sysadmin?
Do I need to reinstall to fix this?
I have an IIS Intranet application written in asp.net framework 4. When I deploy it (by copying the files to the share on the server) everything seems to work, for me. The only strange thing is that others get a popup that asks them to log in. You can press cancel and the site works normally. It works fine if I am logged in on my account, but for everyone else it asks for a login.
Any idea why that might be or how to fix it?
I have a server running on my VPS which hosts the .com that it runs off of. Normally I Remote into this VPS and open management studio and do what I need to do.
How can I connect to the database on my webserver from my office using Management Studio. Can I?
Also, what security concerns are there when doing remote connections?
I have a web app that is currently live. I had the need to make major modifications to the database and now I need to replace the current one.
My dev SQL instance is not the live one. I usually just make a backup of the new DB, blow the old one away and Restore my updated one. But now I have data I need to preserve.
Most of the current tables have changed, in that extra columns have been added, all existing columns are still there and unchanged.
I have access to Management Studio.
What is the right way to do this?
Let me preface this with the fact that I know very little about IIS.
I have several websites on my server (Windows 2003 IIS)
I have domains that I haven't setup in IIS yet that point to my IPAddress.
When you try to go to these sites they redirect to the first site I setup in IIS. How do I change the site that these unsetup domains go to? (It is not redirecting to "Default Web Site" nor is it redirecting to "sitebuilder(default)" whatever that is)
The server has Plesk on it, I use Plesk to setup new sites.
I just want to figure out how to redirect domains that have not been setup in IIS to a page that says "Under Construction" or something.
EDIT:
I have 6 websites setup in IIS. All the websites point to 74.X.X.X(I forget) and Default Website points to "All Unassigned"
I have AAA.com and BBB.com.
AAA.com is setup in IIS, when you go to it it pulls up what is in the vhosts/AAA.com/httpdocs/index.html. So far so good.
BBB.com is not setup in IIS, but I own the domain. When you visit BBB.com it takes you to vhosts/AAA.com/httpdocs/index.html and it remains BBB.com in the address bar of Firefox.
What else could it be? Something about headers? (Sorry I'm a newbie)
