I've just installed the sysstat package on Manjaro. When running sar for the first time I see:

Cannot open /var/log/sa/sa21: No such file or directory
Please check if data collecting is enabled

How do I check whether data collecting is enabled?

If it's not, how would I go about enabling it?

I've recently needed to update my sshd_config file as the hmac-ripemd160 MAC is no longer supported as of sshd version 7.6.

I edited the file then ran:

sshd -t

to test the config.

When that returned null output and exit code 0, I reloaded the config via:

kill -HUP $(pgrep -f /usr/bin/sshd)

(The man page says sshd rereads its configuration file when it receives a hangup signal, SIGHUP)

What are the best practices when changing a server's sshd configuration over an ssh connection?

Currently, / has shared mount propagation:

# findmnt -o TARGET,PROPAGATION /
TARGET PROPAGATION
/      shared

I am considering changing it to private to enable mount --move to work on filesystems mounted under /mnt and /media.

(I want to use mount --move rather than the unsafe umount --lazy)

Without / being private, mount --move will complain with something like:

# mount --move /mnt/mountpoint /mnt/moved
mount: /mnt/moved: bad option; moving a mount residing under a shared mount is unsupported.

  1. Why is / shared by default?

  2. What are the implications of changing / to be private?
