Looks like someone or something is trying a brute force attempt at logging into our production SQL Server instance with the 'sa' account. They haven't been successful because our 'sa' account is disabled, but what steps should I take to make sure things are secure?

What would be the best reasons for a .net web and business intelligence developer to upgrade?

Thanks for the replies all, I'll listen to the suggestions and will run Windows 7 virtually for some time so that I can test company apps and my personal dev environment before upgrading the main OS.
so that I can execute apps (in cmd prompt) without specifying the fully qualified folder structure.
