I'm trying to install MPICH2 on a ubuntu server installation (7.04 fiesty fawn). This is for a Beowulf cluster.

I have so far been unable to install it for two reasons.

1) under the root account:

apt-get install mpich2

yields the following:

Package mpich2 is not available, but is referred to by another package 
E: Package mpich2 has no installation candidate

2) When installing from a tar ball using the following instructions from cd /mirror

mkidr mpich2
tar xvf mpich2_1.3.1.orig.tar.gz (creates directory /mirror/mpich2-1.3.1)
cd mpich2­-1.3.1
./configure --­prefix=/mirror/mpich2
make
sudo make install

everything goes fine until make, where i am informed:

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

there is a small indent on my desk shaped curiously like my forehead. What do you suppose I do to get this bloody software installed?

So this is a LINUX question, and a Cisco NAC question.

I'm trying to update our server from 4.1 to 4.7, and i need to move some tarball files to the NAC. the NAC Appliance runs some strange stripped down version of Fedora Core 4

copying the upgrade: The instructions say to FTP the file to the NAC appliance, however whenever i use WinSCP with root credentials, i get a notice informing me the connection was actively refused.

I can't for the life of me find any .conf files that sound like winners, so I don't know how to change the settings, however the ftp command does seem to work.

what exactly should I do here?

I am installing an emergency pin to pin messaging system server, and Im trying to tell this program to look at our exchange server, however whenever it tries to validate anything (the email addresses i created for the program) i get a "MAPI failed to initialize" message with an error code that means the call failed.

I am unfamiliar with MAPI and how it functions, so any insight would be helpful.

I have a pretty ridiculous problem.

So I've installed SQL Server 2005 on a Window Server 2008 machine. I was working my way through the service packs, provisioning two users to have full rights to the SQL database.

I installed SP3, rebooted, and now I cannot start any of the SQL services. When I try to log into SQL Management Studio, it tells me that remote connections aren't allowed, (they are, im 100% sure) and gives me error message 2.

I haven't the slightest clue on why this would be happening, so any help even in understanding the nature of this problem would be helpful.

I've been tasked with testing Microsoft Forefront Client Security for a public university, and ive sort of lost myself in this process.

My ultimate goals were to create a Test OU (done) drop a few computers into the OU, deploy FCS through WSUS to them, and then violently accost them with viruses and malware.

Thus far I have:
-installed FCS server components (1 server topo) on a WS2008 VM running on ESX.
-created a test OU
-created and linked the FCS policy
-created and linked a policy to point to the WSUS on the test server (don't want to get the schools primary WSUS server involved)

Now what im trying to do is get MOM to manage these clients, and then get WSUS to deploy the client software. however i have some problems

Problem 1: WSUS(on FCS server) cannot see any of the computers in the test OU (is there a way to override domain level WSUS GPO's?)

Problem 2: MOM will not install the agents on the client machines, saying it can't connect to the database

so where do I go from here? thanks

When installing SQL server 2005, i provisioned a domain account to have the logon rights to SQL during the configuration wizard. however when i log into the machine as the domain account (admin) I cannot start any services related to sql server

I get Error1069 the service did not start due to a logon error.

I added the local administrator to the local groups that relate to sql that also included the domain account.

the domain account also has administrator privileges on this machine.
