I have an instance which is stuck at this boot prompt (looking at the instance log from the management console):

The disk drive for /mydisk is not ready yet or not present
Continue to wait; or Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery

I added an EBS volume, mounted it, then deleted the EBS volume and forgot to remove the entry from /etc/fstab and rebooted the machine. Now it prompts me that at boot time, and I am unable to SSH into the instance.

What should I do to resolve this issue?

I have a Hyper-V server running perfectly fine with the VHDs placed on a separate file server shared folder. Now when I install MS Virtual Machine Manager and add the host machine to VMM, it says "Unsupported Configuration" next to each of the Virtual Machines, except one which has its VHD located on the same Hyper-V host server.

Does this mean, I cannot use Virtual Machine Manager with VHDs on a shared drive? Does anyone have experience with this issue?

Under Computer Configuration -> Preferences -> Folder Options, I accidentally added an exe file type and now the icons for all the exes show up the same. How do I restore all the application icons back to their defaults using Group Policy? Deleting the setting does not make it revert back.

I upgraded my nginx server from 0.7.x to 1.0.2 and I copied the old configuration file for the new nginx server. Everything worked fine, except for the if-directive. I had the following block of code in the old config file which doesn't seem to be working with the latest nginx version.

Any idea what's wrong?

P.S.: Yes I know IfIsEvil and I did try exploring try_files, but I couldn't figure out how to pass only the part of the URI AFTER myapp/ as against passing the enter URI to index.php like so: try_files $uri index.php?q=$uri

We have a Dell PowerVault NX-3000 server running Windows Server 2008. Every now and then, when I try to login, the server seems to hang at the Welcome screen after I type in the password. However, all other services on the server are running fine - users are able to print off the print server and access their files. It just won't let me login. Any idea why this is happening?

P.S.: I can't look at the server logs, because it won't let me login in the first place. Remote administration is also disabled on the server, so I can't use Remote Administration tools to look at the logs.

I tried looking up for it. Couldn't find one so far.

I need to send out notifications from my web-app and I've setup postfix as a null client on my server. So in my /etc/postfix/master.cf I have commented out the lines

#smtp      inet  n       -       -       -       -       smtpd
#local     unix  -       n       n       -       -       local

So after I did that when I try to use telnet, it blocks me out.

$ telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

And when I use sendmail I am able to send emails, which is what I want. So far so good.

Now, I'm concerned about spammers not using my SMTP server as an open relay. To this end, do I need to turn on TLS and SMTP Auth support in postfix or is just disabling network access to postfix (by commenting out those two lines in master.cf) sufficient?

In other words, in my current setup - with TLS turned OFF and network access to postfix disabled - is there a possibility of my SMTP server being compromised?

I'm building a web app from which I need to send out email notifications to the users who subscribe for them. Say my domain name is mywebapp.com. I'm using Google Apps to host my email service currently. Ideally I would like to send all my notifications using Google Apps itself and that's what I've been doing all this while using msmtp. But then Google Apps has a limit to the number of emails that can be sent per day which is around 4000 emails.

So is it possible to use Google Apps to host my primary email service for mywebapp.com and then run my own email server to just send email from say [email protected].

This way, I can still use google apps for checking my regular email and also eliminate the upper limit on the number of emails I can send out per day, since I'll be running my own server.

Also, what packages do I need to install on Ubuntu?

I've looked at postfix, but as far as my understanding goes it is a package that can fetch email. Can I use it to send email using a cron job for example?
