We have recently set up a DR site for our Oracle 11g database server at a remote location as a standby database.
How do I verify that the archive logs are being applied to the standby database and what is the last one thats been applied?

I am more familiar with Windows so Linux is a rather strange place for me at present, so please exuse me if this is a dumb question.
Basically, i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions and/or recommendtations for writing scripts to shutdown/startup, backup and a number of other regular DBA tasks.
I would also appriciate any guidence on how to set up scripts to change envionments/homes in a multi-homed environment.
One thing i did forget to mention its default shell for RHEL 5.

I have moved a database from a 32bit version of Oracle 11g under Linux to a 64 bit environment. However, i have experienced problems in the new Environment (also Linux).
Is there any method of upgrading the database to 64bits
One thing i forgot to mention the databse was upgraded from an earlier version, the original and the upgraded version were 32bit.
I Hope this is a simple question.
What is the best practice to mount RAW drives on RHEL 5. I have found a couple of approaches but i'm not sure what the correct one is as i have found references to some being depreciated.
As an aside, i would also need to know how to assign ownership rights as they shouldn't be owned by root if its included in the mounting process.
I am a SQL Server DBA and recently been given responsibility for an Oracle environment. (11g)
Now i do timed backups of my transaction logs on SQL Server and then migrate them to a different server. I would like to do this with Oracle as well.
Oracle's redo logs appear to be size based before they switch and allow the server to archive them.
Can someone provide some tips / best practices on how to achieve this.
I would also appreciate any advice on sizing the redo logs and how to handle changes in usage patterns during the day.
I forgot to say this is on a Redhat 5 Enterprise server
