We are running a new Nagios Core server on Ubuntu 16 Server. Everything was running fine until today when all of a sudden, the site slowed to a crawl. Looking at top command results, we are seeing consistent 99-100% usage by either the nagios or *.cgi processes (web UI). Nothing changed. We also see that polling latencies have increased dramatically. We ran into this once before and decided to remove the install, build a fresh compile and deploy as new. That was a few weeks ago, and now we are back to the same thing. Anyone else run into this that has a fix? Thanks.

We have an HP ProLiant ML350 G5 server with an 8-bay RAID 5 array configured on a Smart Array E200i controller. The system volume and data are on the same logical drive. The drives are 72GB each and we are running out of space. All the bays are used up. We have considered external storage expansion and using an archive drive to move the data temporarily while we upgrade the array, but given it's a system drive, that could get tricky.

We came up with this plan and would like some validation this will work:

1. Verify full data backup is completed. Remove 72gb drives from bays 1-4, breaking the array.
2. Put in new drives into bays 1-4 (600gb drives). We are fully aware that adding these drives to the existing array will not utilize all the space, yet.
3. Let the array rebuild.
4. Remove drives from bays 5-8, breaking the array again.
5. Now, all the data is also on the first 4 600GB drives, so we can expand the array to the full size and remove the last 4 drives from the logical drive.

The part I am mainly unsure of is how to remove the last 4 drives from the array logically and whether or not this will work at all. Thanks for any insight.

UPDATE: Since I can't mark a comment as the answer, I'll update the post. In the end, we had no other solution than to backup all the data, replace the drives, recreate the arrays and restore. This is relatively nerve racking when you don't do it often, so we put a test plan together and used Macrium Server to backup to a USB 3 drive and restored from that once the new drives were in place. Before replacing the drives we made sure we could access all the backups and had a plan B. It took a while, but it did work and now they have plenty of space available. Thanks.

We have a single Windows server running Apache and Tomcat with mod_jk enabled. The Tomcat app runs perfectly fine as does the separate PHP app (under Apache). We installed a commercial SSL cert under Apache and created a directive in the httpd-ssl.conf file. All this works fine.

If we browse directly to https://www.domain.com/app/foo/bar it works fine, so we know the certificate is working. Our problem is that we want certain pages (JSP pages specifically) to load up under https. We tried putting .htaccess files in the proper folders (where we think the servlets are living) and that doesn't do anything, presumably since Tomcat is not serving the pages, Apache is (is that the correct thinking?). So, we are confused as to where we are supposed to configure the rules (?) to force https for certain JSP pages and not others. Presumably Apache should be handling this, but since the .htaccess file is not working, what other option is there?

We have a Xenapp 5.x server running for over a year now. It does not have any purchased Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) licenses installed. It is running on a Windows 2008 Server box. I am aware that Terminal Services runs fine for about 3 months and then supposedly stops issuing licenses. On occasion, Xenapp stops working and we see lots of License errors in the event log, although not necessarily every time. In most cases, a reboot or 2 resolves the problem. We figured it was because of the lack of TS licenses. I spoke with Citrix and they said we had to have the licenses, but it begs the question that if we have to have the licenses, how does it work the majority of the time without them!!?? I have not received a straight answer yet and before I tell my client to shell out more money, I need to understand the technical reasoning for how this is actually working if we are breaking the rules here. We will buy the licenses if necessary, but there has to be an explanation for this. I am hoping the community can help where Citrix apparently cannot. Thanks much!

We have a new Zimbra server (Release 5.0.18_GA_3011.UBUNTU8 UBUNTU8 FOSS edition) running and it was working great until we changed the host name following documented procedures. Now the server is not listening on port 110 anymore on the proper interface. It is listening on tcp6 under localhost, but not the public IP or even 0.0.0.0 as port 25 does. We have tried re-provisioning the server ports to no avail. We looked in all the config files and everything looks correct. Mail is flowing and ending up in mailboxes, so the mailboxd service is functioning fine. The imap/pop proxy is turned off as required. I don't know what we are missing here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to spec out a server machine to run VMWare ESX/ESXi to host about 3-4 VM's. They will likely be hosting VM's running IIS, Apache and BIND. We don't have a huge budget for this and to a certain degree this is an experiment in virtualization. If it works, we will apply this solution to the rest of our data center.

I am concerned about performance when using RAID technology across VM's on the same box. Does anyone have any advice/experiences they can share either in favor of RAID or opposed to it with multiple VM's (Hopefully we can avoid a general anti/pro-RAID argument). If your experience results in recommending against RAID in this case, how do you handle redundancy/availability? Thanks!

I am running a VMWare Server 2.0 with guest OS of Windows XP SP3. I have a NeatCo scanner hooked up via USB 2.0 port. Since VMWare server 2.0 now supports USB 2.0, I am able to get the scanner to be recognized by the guest OS. When I go to scan, it blue screens.

I checked the VMWare forums and most of the posts say to use USB 1.1 since older versions of VMWare don't support USB 2.0. I even updated the chipset drivers on the host PC to see if that helped - no good. Apparently it has to do with the packet sizes between USB 2.0 and 1.1. When I plug in the device, the guest OS suggests using a USB 2.0 port which means to me it's not recognizing the USB 2.0. I also checked the VMWare site for updated USB drivers, but nothing.

I would rather not have to get a USB 1.1 hub to work around this. Any ideas/experiences that may help? Thanks!!

I have a production server running vmware server 2.0. I want one of the VM's (company intranet) to power on automatically if the host server is rebooted. I searched online and found references to an autostart setting for the global configuration file and/or the local VMX files. However in all cases, the advice was given 4 years ago, so I am not sure if this even applies anymore. Should I just put a shortcut to the .vmx file in the startup group? Is there a better/different way? Thanks all!

I have been tackling this problem for a while now. I have a single user in a 30+ user environment running AD and Exchange 2003 Server. The user is running XP with Outlook 2007. At least once every few days, when Outlook is launched by the user, nothing happens. When you look at task manager, there are at least 4-5 or more versions of Outlook.exe running. One of them is usually taking about 95MB of RAM or more. If you kill that process, the others go away and Outlook appears.

We thought it was user "eagerness" at first (click-happy) so we setup their shortcuts to use the /recycle parameter, but this is proving not to work. We have tried safe mode, repairing, looking for spyware/malware as well. We have removed and reinstalled. The event log doesn't show anything. I am out of ideas as to what is causing this to happen. No other users are experiencing this and nothing else is being reported as going awry on this machine. I know Outlook has it's bugs, but this is strange. Also, the user never had this problem with Outlook 2003. Thanks!

I am trying to move a mailbox from one user account to another within a single AD domain. We are using Exchange 2007. I have followed these steps:

1. Disable the account
2. From "Disconnected Mailbox" container, connect to the new account
3. I get a success message

When I try to login to OWA using the new user account, I get this message:

Outlook Web Access could not connect to Microsoft Exchange. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization.

Exception Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ConnectionFailedTransientException Exception message: Cannot open mailbox /o=cgsexchangeorganization/ou=exchange administrative group (fydibohf23spdlt)/cn=recipients/cn=someuser.

NOTE: I changed some identifying information for security purposes.

I have tried multiple times and get to the same place. When I login to OWA with old account, I get an error that the mailbox cannot be found, which makes total sense. Does anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks!
