I've created a GPO in SBS 2008 that deploys and updates software. Unfortunately, one of our VPN users lives out in the sticks and has severe latency, so the start up processes and updates time out and take an awfully long time, if they ever complete at all.
I'd like to apply this GPO to all auth'd users except for him, without having to create a new custom user group. Any thoughts?
We're running Exchange 2007 which comes packed in our SBS 2008 bundle. At this point, it seems like I need to go directly to the MS update site in order to download update for Exchange. Is there a way to receive automatic updates, similar to the way we receive updates for the core SBS 2008?
I'm trying to resolve some issues with computers not obtaining Group Policies properly, and in the SBS Console windows I noticed that the status of a lot of our workstations is Unknown, so there is very little I can do with them remotely. First part of the question, is it normal to have so many unknown machines (as opposed to Online/Offline), as I would say about 30% of our computers are showing that.
One machine in particular has the status message of, "Unknown - No computer is mapped to this computer account (dnsHostName is empty). I've tried to Google this, but with no luck.
Any thoughts?
We installed a few new computers to the network, and all of them appear to be having the same issue in Application Event Log:
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (The network path was not found. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
These workstations can still log into the domain, but deployed software installs and such to network computers are not taking place for these machines.
Is there a likely cause to this? Again, these were brand new machines, same OS (Win XP Pro) as all others.
I have added a software package to my networks Computer Configuration in the Group Policy Management Editor for SBS 2008. I've noticed that even after adding the package, and rebooting a machine on the network several times, it doesn't seem to be installing. I would imagine that this is because I need to make sure the MSI is set to install silently/quietly.
Any ideas on how one would go about doing that?
We are running MS Small Business Server 2008, and there are a few programs that we would like to have installed on all client computers. Is there a way to install this software on all machines without manually going to each computer? Obviously this can be done with windows updates and such, but we're hoping for more :)
