My mother board contains SATA-3 ports however some are listed as S-SATA and I-SATA as shown in the manual:
I have plugged some harddrives in each of these ports and they both work fine. However I want to know the difference between these ports and I'm having trouble finding the difference between PCH and SCU for SATA. My primary concern is if one type of port is faster than another.
Can someone please explain the difference between these SATA types?

If I create a snapshot say:
lvcreate --size 100M --snapshot --name homeSnap /dev/vg1/home
then i back up this snapshot:
dd if=/dev/vg1/homeSnap of=/mnt/data/backup.img
then create a new logical volume
lvcreate --size 50G --name test vg1
then copy the snapshot to the new logical drive:
dd if=/mnt/data/backup.img of=/dev/vg1/test
Now say that the original /dev/vg1/home is only 10G size. The /dev/vg1/test is 50G. What happens to the other 40G will i be able to use this as normal or does the new /dev/vg1/test only become 10G and I lose the 40G without some type of resizing?
I bought a new 2.5" hard drive that i put into a 1u server. I first screwed it into the hot swappable mount with screws then plugged it in. The hot swappable mount (image attached) came with a little rubber rectangle thing with one adhesive side.
I'm new to server hardware and building them. But I couldn't find any use for this? Does anyone know what they are used for? I was thinking it might go between the HD and the swappable mount to stop vibration or something however it doesn't fit there.
