I'm trying to boot a VM with grub-legacy and I'm getting a grub prompt.

If I run root (hd0,0) it says Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83, but then if I do kernel /TAB it says Error 2: Bad file or directory type, same for (hd0,1). Any idea?

I've tried find /boot/grub/stage1 and it says file not found.

I have a KVM host (A) running a virtual machine (B). They each have their own external IP address and the networking is setup using bridging between eth0 and br0 on A. B uses eth0, with A being the gateway.

The problem is that the two external IP addresses are on different subnets (different /8s in fact) so by default, B claims it cannot reach A (Network Unreachable).

I can resolve this by adding a static route on B:
echo "any host gateway_ip dev eth0" > /etc/sysconfig/static-routes

Modifying /etc/init.d/networking to reload the gateway after applying static routes (I only added the final line before fi):

    grep "^any" /etc/sysconfig/static-routes | while read ignore args ; do  
        /sbin/route add -$args  
    done  
    route add default gw "${GATEWAY}"  
fi  

If I then restart networking, it comes online. How can I do this (or work around it some other way) prior to the system being installed, ideally inside an Anaconda kickstart file?

With Hyper-V, is there any way to locate a virtual machine knowing only the MAC Address and an IP address it's using? I have access to SCVMM and Failover Cluster Manager but the option to search by MAC doesn't appear to be listed.

Possibly a simple question but I'm trying to lockdown which users can send email from the local machine. I've locked down which ones can receive by running newaliases on an /etc/postfix/allowed_recipients file and setting something similar to
smtpd_recipient_restrictions = hash:/etc/postfix/allowed_recipients, reject
It works, but how can I do the same for sender restrictions?

I'm trying to connect to a VPN service over L2TP using Karmic as a client and it's not working.

The only details I have are the remote IP address, username & password, and a shared secret string; this is enough for Windows but doesn't appear to be enough for Ubuntu.

I've tried using network-manager-vpnc and vpnc from the terminal to connect and I get "no supported authentication", and trying with OpenSwan it says "unable to identify either side of the connection".

I'd really appreciate some help here if anyone else has implemented this successfully.
