I've run into the following issue recently following an intrusion in to my VPS:

Although resolv.conf is properly configured with the correct DNS servers the VPS can not resolve hosts.

I can:

• Ping the DNS Servers just fine
• I can ping based on IP

I can not:

• Resolve hostnames
• ping the hostname of the actual localhost / server.

I've tried looking into where the problem may lie but I see no rules, for instance, blocking outgoing DNS traffic.

Results of nslookup google.com

hostname:/etc/network# nslookup google.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

I'm slowly running out of ideas on where to look.

Any ideas ?

I'm having a peculiar issue with a 32bit software program that is being migrated to a x64 environment (Windows XP SP3 towards Windows 7 X64. The application is question is a electronic register / till for our endpoint sales offices.

The application is located in:

"C:\Program Files(x86)\Q_Kassa"

We have configured all relevant acces for the user that'll run the software as a shell including all relevant read / write rights on the folders that the application needs. However, as long as we do not "Run As Admin" or as long as the user that'll load the program is not a member of the local admins groups the application will not load throwing the error that it can't find a file located in:

C:\Program Files\Q_Kassa\FileName

The thing is, all relevant config data, config files and register info tell the application that it's data is in the Program Files (x86) directory. For some reason it seems like, when the application is run using the "Run As Admin" option, or ran while the user is in the local admin group, that Windows is misinterpreting the folder it needs to get as Application folder.

So in summary:

As local admin / Run-as-admin option used:

the application is fed info from C:\Program Files(x86)\Q_KASSA\
--> as it should be.

When run as a normal user the application tries to get it's info from 
    C:\Program Files\Q_Kassa
--> wrong folder

Anyone able explain why which run-level the application has apparently determines which Program Files directory is used ?

I've got a pretty basic question,

I am making a configuration script for mySQL replication between 2 new blank servers, now to make it a bit more failsafe I added the lines:

sed '/log-bin/d' /etc/my.cnf
sed '/server/d' /etc/my.cnf

So that, if there where already config options set by default, it would remove the lines in question.

Now, in the next step of the script I want it to readd those lines, with the options we desire. The only problem I'm having is that the my.cnf file is made up with

[mysqld]

like headers, what I'm wondering is (and can't find by means of google) is if these actually matter, of if they are mainly to indicate things.

can I just add

echo "log-bin=mysql-bin" >> /etc/my.cnf
echo "server-id=1" >> /etc/my.cnf

or do they need to be in the section marked with

[mysqld]

and if they are, can I "expand" the section by adding another

[mysqld]

at the bottom of the file so that you would have 2x this "region" ?

effectivly making it look like this:

I'm trying to make a remote GPO script that from one of our management machines will push the GPUPDATE command to certain servers. After some googling I found a script that I tried to adapt / make run.

The problem however is that when I run it through the BATCH file it errors out on me when doing line 9 (to be fair it doesn't error it just exits the script)

if I run the line 9 code through a DOS prompt window manually and for instance do the following:

For /f “Tokens=*” %a in (ComputerList.txt) Do ( echo %a) 

it will run just fine and echo all the computersnames in the list.

PS: This script is going to try and GPUPDATE both Win2k8/Win2K3 and Win2K computers.

So, my guestion is "easy" in nature, not so easy in solution...

my boss came up with a brilliant idea of having wallpapers changed every 30 minutes or 1 hour or something. In short, he wants active desktop from windows 7 but this pushed through a GPO.

For windows XP machines we would like this to work as well, but if we can get it working on windows 7 machines for now that'd be great.

anyone able to point me to a guide, how to, or tell me how to get started on this and where to find the right option to do this in the GPO's ?

Right, what we wish (or need) to do is to migrate a NAS from a old machine to a new one.

problem is, we wish to keep the folder hierarchie intact, and all the settings and shares.

Now I vaguely recall microsoft used to have a tool to do exactly this.

It would copy the folders exactly, with the rights intact, and then remove the shares on the old machine and reactivate them on the new machine.

Now is there anyone who could help me find it again, or perhaps find a better solution for it ?

What i'm trying to do is install Xen in a test environment, now I am trying to run the:

apt-get build-dep xen-3.3

command, but it keep throwing a error which literally translated from dutch (installed the debian OS in Dutch) say's:

E: your sourcelist (/etc/apt/sources.list) has to contain at least 1 source-URI

I've googled it but I can't seem to find a definitive solid answer on how to fix this.

By default a source-URI (read man page of apt-get) states it needs to be something along the lines of

deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian stable contrib

Now I've got 2 HTTP sources (default Debian ones) up & running so far and they've been working flawlessly for the better part of a few days now. Only now its starting to act up.

Anyone able to help me out ?

So, as the name suggest I'm trying to mount a ISO from a network share using the UNC path to a HYPER-V R2 Cluster.

This is a pure Demo / test case setup with:

2x HYPER-V R2 1X NAS/iSCSI CSV Cluster

Management is happening through the MMC with RSAT tools.

So what i've done so far is:

Set up the cluster and configure Quorum, add CSV Shares and disks, set up 1 Virtual Machine on the Hyper-1 node.

What i'm trying to do is, you go to settings ---> DVD Drive ---> use network location ----> Pick ISO file and press "apply".

Error I'm getting is either "User account does not have rights to mount iso".

I changed that or stopped getting that message when I went to the HYPER-V Node settings and tabbed on:

"Use Default Credentials Automatically".

Now I stopped getting the "user does not have right..." message but I get the following:

• Error applying DVD Drive Changes

Failed to remove device microsoft synthetic DVD Drive:" the specified network resource or device is no longer available"

I've google'd the problem but am unable to find a solution. Anyone here able to help me out ?
