We have two different versions of our website - one for older versions of Internet Explorer (7 and 8), and one for all other browsers.

(arguments around JS feature detection have been made, but we have found it easier to progress this way!)

We would like to silently (ie without a 301) files to be served from a different directory - so a request to:

/app/foo/bar

would be served from the directory:

html/ie/foo/bar

for Internet Explorer 8 and below, and for other browsers from:

html/other/foo/bar

Is this possible to achieve using .htaccess?

I am attempting to create automatic subdomains using Apache 2 (running on a Ubuntu box)

I have used the VirtualDocumentRoot directive to do the initial declaring of the document root, with the following in my virtual host file:

This works well for the first part, so a request to foo.dev.example.com has a document root of /var/www/dev/branches/foo/public, which is great.

The problem

Alas, the *.htaccess file I have in the public folders doesn't seem to be working.

All requests should be sent through index.php in the public folder, as the .htaccess file shows:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
  RewriteEngine on  
  # redirects requests to index.php where no file or directory exists
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

A request to foo.dev.example.com works, but a request to foo.dev.example.com/subdir fails.

Help!

I have an error log that shows this is a mod_rewrite problem:

I don't even know where to begin to be honest.

Trying to use an external API that requires SSL connections, I discover that SSL in needed on cURL, but this (apparently) requires PHP to be reinstalled and compiled with cURL / SSL support.

Not really experienced with compiling PHP, and I'm not sure if our server even has make or build, the only luck I've had is with rpm's before.

This really isn't in my job description. Any help most most welcome!

I am attempting to install "uploadprogress" for a PHP application, and have failed on dependencies.

Firstly, on phpize, then php-devel, then on autoconf and automake.

I have tried yum, and various repositories, with no luck.

I think it's to do with the ultra-tight but annoying set up they have on Rackspace Cloud servers.

Does anyone know where I can find a repository that I can tell yum to look at that will contain php-devel, autoconf, automake, etc?

Is this ever changed automatically by a system update?

I'm just wondering as I set a 'hilarious' one for a personal server off rackspace cloud, and it seems to have been deleted.
