I have two large file shares where the following has occurred:

1. A (currently unknown) administrator took ownership of the share.
2. The administrator broke inheritance on the share, and removed the inherited permissions.
3. The administrator granted a security principal modify permissions on the share.

I need to re-enable inheritance on the share to fix the issue, but I cannot do that without taking ownership. I can't take ownership without risk of destroying explicit permissions assigned deeper in the share. Currently, the Owner tab states 'Unable to display current owner.'

Each share is a cifs share on NetApp storage.

Does anyone know of a way to discover who the current owner is in case we can't get the offending party to fess up? If I can get the current owner to switch the owner for me, I think I can avoid the destructive side effects of taking ownership myself. Then I can send that admin to the corner to think about what he or she has done...

I need to collect baseline performance data on a SQL Server running on Windows Server 2008 R2. When I open perfmon on my computer running Windows 7 and try to add counters from the remote server, I receive an error stating "Unable to connect to the machine."

I can ping the server, and I can connect using Remote Desktop.

In addition to the perfmon issue, I cannot browse shares (e.g. \uncpath\c$), connect to the remote registry, or connect to port 445 over telnet.

I'm on the same subnet as the server, and the Windows Firewall is turned off on both the server and my computer.

I want to change my outside access number from 8 to 9 in Cisco Unified Communications Manager. I've copied all of my 9.x route patterns to create a duplicate set of 8.x route patterns.

When I try to dial an outside number using (i.e. 8.1-800-444-4444), I hear the "Your call cannot be completed as dialed" recording.

All of the new 8.x route patterns are in the same partitions as the 9.x patterns. Do I need to delete the 9.x patterns before the 8.x patterns will work?

Three Networks:

1. 10.1.1.0 - Mine
2. 172.1.1.0 - My Branch Office
3. 172.2.2.0 - My Branch Office's VOIP VLAN.

My PC is on 10.1.1.0. I need to telnet into a Cisco router on 172.2.2.0. The 10.1.1.0 network has no routes to 172.2.2.0, but a VPN connects 10.1.1.0 to 172.1.1.0. Traffic on 172.1.1.0 can route to 172.2.2.0.

All PCs on 172.1.1.0 are running Windows XP. Without disrupting anyone using those PCs, I want to open a telnet session from one of those PCs to the router on 172.2.2.0.

I've tried the following:

psexec.exe \\branchpc telnet 172.2.2.1


psexec.exe \\branchpc cmd.exe
telnet 172.2.2.1


psexec.exe \\branchpc -c plink -telnet 172.2.2.1

Methods 1 and 2 both failed because telnet.exe is not usable over psexec. Method 3 actually succeeded in creating the connection, but I cannot login because the session registers my carriage return twice. My password is always blank because at the "Username:" prompt I'm effectively typing: Routeruser[ENTER][ENTER]

It's probably time to deploy WinRM...

Does anyone know of any other alternatives?

Does anyone know how I can fix plink.exe so it only receives one carriage return when I use it over psexec?

I have a Server 2008 R2 x64 installation (we'll call it MARS) that will not communicate with one of my Server 2008 R2 x64 Hyper-V hosts (we'll call it VENUS) or any of its guests.

• They're both on the same VLAN and plugged into the same switch.
• All other nodes on the network can connect to both MARS and VENUS (+ guests) including other Server 2008 R2 x64 servers and Hyper-V hosts.
• The firewalls for all network profiles are disabled on both servers.
• I have rebuilt MARS and the problem persists.
• VENUS is our only Hyper-V host running on a full installation of Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition. The other hosts are running 2008 R2 Server Core with the Hyper-V role installed.
• VENUS has 4 teamed HP NC382i NICs.

We plan to migrate all guests off VENUS and rebuild it on Server Core. That might resolve the problem, but I was curious if anyone had encountered anything like this before.
