I want to use my windows server as a gateway and DHCP for my local network. It have 2 NICs where one will be connected to the internet and the other to my local network. There are no router on the other side only clients and a switch.

I have speend 8+ hours on this so far, and are no further then i was when i begain. So far i have figured out that i need to setup DirectAccess and a DHCP on my server, is this correct or is there an easier way? And do DirectAccess require a Domain Controller or can i set it up without?

I am having problems making my ms sql server 2008 take remote connections, local workes fine.

• I have enabled the TCP/IP and the server browser server in the sql server config
• I have opened the ports in the firewall, have also tried shutting it down completly.
• I have made it so the server allow username/password logins.

What am i missing for remote connections to be allowed? The Sql Server 2008 R2 is running on windows 7.

I today install SP1 on my Windows Server 2008 R2, but after the mandatory reboot are the MySQL server unable to start, where i get the following error.

I have tryed to remove the "read only" on the data dir "C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data" but this dose not help.

Any idears to how i can fix this?

I have a software raid 5 of 5x1,5Tb harddrives, this raid has been made in Windows Server 2008 R2. Now I know that Resynching can take a lot of time to be preformed, but so far have it been running for 4 days and it is only 5x1,5TB harddrives, so I am starting to wonder what is happening! Is there any way I can see how far along it is in the process, as it only says "Resynching"?

Edit: Now is Saturday 3/4-2011 and it is still Resynching, and it have not been powered down since then.

I have just bought a Rosewill RSV-S5, I have installed 5x1,5Tb Western Digital Green disks in it. After that have I created a Raid5 on them all with the software that followed with the hardware. Not the raid it self works fine, but it is SLOW, I can only obtain a maximum of 25 MB/s, and if SABnzbd+ is downloading with 5 MB/s is it having a hard time streaming a normal DIVX (700 mb) movie. Is this normal or is there something wrong?

Edit: should be able to handle 3 Gbps = 384 megabytes / second

Edit 2: As you can see am I only downloading with 3,76 MB/s and I'm trying to watch V s02e08 (720p), but it is completely unwatchable, as I can see 30 sec, and the it buffers for 20 sec. Edit: Other information there might be required I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2, optimized for program performance. Windows is installed on a 60GB SSD. I have a 50 Mb/s internet connection and a 1 Gb/s LAN, all connected with Cat6 Ethernet cables. The MCE is using a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R motherboard with 2 GB DDR2 ram.

Pros: Enclosure for 5x2TB hard drive is fine. This is basically a rebranded San Digital TR5M-B product. For support Rosewill tells you to contact San Digital. No direct support from Silicon Image for the computer raid card.

Cons: Includes computer Silicon Image 3132 raid card, extremely slow raid 5 write (our tests ~10MB/s). Compare to regular internal local drive write 30-60MB/s. We basically dumped the Sil3132 card and replaced with High Point RocketRaid 622 card for extra $69.99. Note for RR622, turn off ECRC (end to end CRC check) for card to work on IBM xserver. What took 12hrs to copy now took 2-3hrs. San Digital realized the problem and has the newer model TR5M-BP TowerRaid Plus that comes with High Point RocketRaid 622 card. Rosewill should discontinue this product and go with TR5M-BP. Could not get Silicon Image raid management software to work with complicated 2008R2 server with 10 NICs, application doesn't know how to talk to localhost port with all those NICs. No updates from Silicon Image and support from San Digital ignored. Gave up on Sil3132 card. Save yourself from a lot of headaches, get the RR622 card too if you are going to buy this product.

Other Thoughts: The newer model is TR5M-BP TowerRaid Plus, comes with High Point RocketRaid 622 raid card for the PC instead of Silicon Image Sil3132. According to San Digital, raid 5 performance for Sil3132 read 80MB/s write 19MB/s, and RR622 read 154MB/s write 149MB/s. Our RR622 tests gave (8TB raid 5) write ~80-110MB/s copying 40GB file took 8mins.

So I have now ordered a HighPoint RocketRAID 622 2P ext SATA III and hopes that it will solve my problems.

I have just bought a Rosewill RSV-S5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132015 because i want to move the hardisks out of my case. I have 5 disks now in a software raid 5, made in Windows Server 2008 RC2.

My question is can i move the disks over to the Rosewill RSV-S5 and keep my data, or do i need to backup all my data first and recreate the raid once they have been installed in Rosewill RSV-S5?

How can I make a Windows Server 2008 RC2 server, auto connect to a vpn when it boots?

Hello i am having problems setting my MS SQL server up so i can connect to it remotely. I have enabled remote access in the SQL Server itself, and enabled TCP connections in the config manager. And i have added an allow on port 1433 in the windows firewall! But when i try to connect nothing. I then tried to disable the firewall complete, and suddenly i was able to connect, so the problem must be in the firewall. But what else then adding an allow on port 1433 in the inbound section must i set up before the firewall will allow remote access to my ms sql server?

Hello i am trying to get my slave media center to mount a network drive at startup automatic. I have written this to my /etc/fstab/

\\192.168.1.2\root /media/data cifs username=doomstone,password=XXXX,auto,user 0 0
\\192.168.1.2\xbmc /media/xbmc cifs username=doomstone,password=XXXX,auto,user 0 0

Now when i do a "mount /media/data" it all works just fine, but it dose not mount it on statup. witch is a pain as the computer dose not have a keyboard, only a remote. So i need to ssh the computer and mount the drives each time i boot. As far as i can figure is that the computer dose not have a network connection at the mount time, and thus fails the mount of the network drives.

How can i do this so it can be mounted at startup?

I have a server with Windows 2008 Server on, and we host some ASP.NET apps and some php. The problem is that PHP under IIS dose not work 100% correctly under IIS (At least not as i would under an apache server) and this is giving us problems. So as the server has multiple ip where we thinking if i user ip 1 would i hit the IIS server, but if i use ip 2 would i hit the Apache server. Where i go in by port 80 on both. Maby having apache running on port 8080 or something and use some kind of software router to direct it to port 8080, if a users enters in ip2:80?

Is this possible? and if how so? :D

I'm having a large problem with our development server, it have had a program called Webmin + a total idiot have been administrating the Linux sever. Witch now have resulted in the server being totally trashed, there are so many different kinds of the same program install that anything doesn’t work. And don't get me started on the users and groups :D

Well at last I have been given the responsibility to administrate our development server. But I would like to start from scratch, instead of trying to find every single package and config the previous admin have ****ed up. But the problem is that it is a remote hosted server with ssh access.

The server is running Debian, but i am thinking of reinstalling it with ubuntu server
