Why can I successfully add an IP address with this command

but the same command fails for persistent address

Running in PowerShell 5.1 as Administrator.

I need to test performance of UDP echo server application.

I use nping to generate traffic however nping always reports 100% packet loss no matter to which port the server returns the echo packets.

Nping works OK when I run it in ICMP mode but this does not tests the server.

Is there anything special about UDP echo packet to make it detectable by nping?

I have a buildroot system that I cannot login into with via root.

Root login using .ssh/authorized_keys working, but isn't practical since it's a read-only filesystem. Telnet root login also works.

How can I enable password-based login and can I enable logging of sshd to get more info?

What could cause a CentOS machine to respond with SYN-ACK packet having both source and destination MACs set to the address of the NIC from which the packet is being sent?

If I know all client will connect to the sever with the same MAC address and to the same interface, is it possible to prevent from server host to send ARP request for each new client IP it gets a connection from?

I tried to add permanent ARP entry with a netmask but seems like it is not supported.

I have a virtual network for connecting KVM guests with the host.

I need to disable TCP checksum offloading on this network. The ethtool works fine but I want to disable it permanently and I could not find anything in virsh or QEMU documentation. Adding /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-virbr1 file with the corresponding options also does not work.

I need to build a test environment with a very precise packet loss based on specific TCP sequence or, optionally, on payload content. I couldn't figure out how to do it with tc or iptables. What tool should I use?

Is it possible to setup lighttpd server and curl client so that both the client and the server verify each other's self-signed SSL certificate but the file is downloaded without SSL encryption?

I'm trying to install wxGTK-devel on CentOS and since it's not in the base repo I added RPMForge. But now I'm getting these broken dependencies. I don't want start tampering with separate rpms because I suspect it will make thing worse. I remember installing this package from RPMForge without a problem several months ago. Please, advise.

Why do I have route to 169.254.0.0 although it does not appear in Network > Ethernet Device > Route configuration dialog?

I have a Linux machine running as a bridge simulating various network conditions. I use tc for this. Introducing delays or packet loss is quite simple but I got into trouble trying to configure bandwidth limiting. Can you, please, show me how to limit all the traffic going through my bridge without any special rules and condition, simply limit it to 1Mb/s?

I need to duplicate CentOS hard drive image for multiple stations. The HD has the following layout:

I saved /dev/sdb1 to file with fsarchiver but for sdb2 I get:

Although fsarchiver probe simple correctly detects sdb2 as LVM2_member. Is fsarchiver correct tool for this job? What's wrong?

I'm trying to enable TCP Vegas congestion control on Centos 5.4 box. According to Vegas home page it is as simple as echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_vegas_cong_avoid but this file does not exist. I found kernel module /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/kernel/net/ipv4/tcp_vegas.ko but insmodding it does not cause the file to appear. Any suggestions?

Is there an HTTP server which can serve files being written/appended to by some other process? I tried to serve a FIFO file with Apache but such files has zero size so Apache serves empty file even if the FIFO has some data in it.

I want to monitor vsftpd server from monit on CentOS 5.4 but somehow vsftpd does not create pid file in /var/run (nor in any other place).

Is this behavior normal for this distro? How should I configure monit to watch for vsftpd, should I create pid file manually in /etc/init.d/vsftpd script?

I develop Web cache application for video content. I need to test it with sites like Youtube. Are there any applications which can be used to emulate random browsing of Youtube so I can stress-load my cache proxy?
