What's the least cumbersome way to extend existing server's storage capabilities?

I have a SuperMicro custom server and a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and I would like to extend their storage with budget hard drives, not the server ones.

I'm looking for something like a JBOD chassis (12+ 3.5") that can be connected directly to the server via some kind of controller/extension card - and then be just in /dev ready for LVM/Raid.

I've got a device that supports strange "ssh". It doesn't support key auth an my problem is I don't know how to feed it username and password (-l or user@host are not working). It asks for login and password after connection like this:

zeratul@antioch:~$ ssh 1.2.3.4

Please login: user
password : 
Login incorrect

Is it even possible to do that from shell script or can I forget it?

is there a way to configure delay with which emails will be processed by postfix? What I'm aiming for is e.g. 5 minute lag between receiving mail from MUA and transferring it to mailbox or other MTA.

We have following setup: User comes to building, he gets address from range for unknown clients (192.168.100.0/25) and can only get to our web site. We call it anonymous range. Let's say our user acquired address 192.168.100.16 and won§t get past the local network.

Then he must go and register his MAC address and is assigned new fixed IP from 192.168.40.0/22 address range. DHCP configuration is updated and reloaded. User then "gets to the Internet" because this range is not blocked by firewall. ipconfig /release /renew routine worked every time.

What happened this week: After user registers his MAC and DHCPD reloads he still gets the 192.168.100.16 address, which is wrong, because he should get let's say 192.168.40.156 (his MAC and this address are fixed in config). Effect being he can't get to the Internet. When looking at daemon.log I see that there is REQUEST for 192.168.100.16 address and DHCP server ACKonwledges it. Once occurred on Windows 7 and once on tablet running Android 3.0.

This never happened before and we can't figure out how to solve this. Reinstalling Windows helps but that is just stupid, can't ask that from users.

I resized my logical volume and filesystem and all went smoothly. I installed new kernel and after reboot I can't boot neither current nor former one. I get volume group not found error after selecting grub(2) option. Inspection from busy box reveals the volumes are not registered with device mapper and that they are inactive. I wasn't able to mount them after activating, I got file not found error (mount /dev/mapper/all-root /mnt).

Any ideas how to proceed or make them active at the boot time? Or why the volumes are all of sudden inactive at boot time?

EDIT: Further investigation revealed that this had nothing to do with the resizing of logical volumes. The fact that logical volumes had to be activated manually in ash shell after failed boot and possible solution to this problem is covered in my reply below.

Is there a way to match VLAN ids and redirect such http traffic to webserver (?? iptables)? And when at webserver, rewrite URL according to VLAN id?

I would need such thing because our network implements number of VLANs with 802.1x and we would like to show some "banned" users specific web pages.
